Any movement with this job or waiting for the summer?

Sacred Heart could care less about this position. If it were football or basketball or baseball it would have been filled by now.

Yeah, because SHU is a powerhouse in those 3 sports for sure.

they've had some very good success in football, but don't let that stop you with your false narrative.

Yeah, i remember when that year they were in the Orange Bowl and ...... oh wait. They are not a top 3 team in CT and that is sad.

4-7, 6-5, 6-5 in the past three years. I think SJ girls soccer would beat them handily.

Not only are they not good in those sports, but those sports cost the school money. I highly doubt they’d be racing to fill one of those openings either. All schools are the same. They don’t care until people start complaining.

At smaller schools like SHU you really have to question of running some programs, especially football. Football costs a fortune to run, carrying rosters of 100, multiple coaches etc. and then it sets up title 9 equivalencies. Even more so at smaller state schools that are facing tight budgets and trying to keep tuition affordable for state residents.

At a place like SHU, the football program likely makes money. Not in the traditional way of hate receipts and TV revenue. But by giving out 35 scholarships while bringing in 65 walk ons that pay their way to the tune of 57K a year. Also draws non athletes to the school from the social aspect. You are correct on Title IX issues though, but they offset that by either adding more women’s sports or slashing funding on men’s sports.

In theory they can get those other 65 kids by other means without the expense of running a football team. A few schools have cut football and I think CCSU cut scholarships for football. Of course then there's also alumni donations and other factors that go into a decision like that.

Are you on crack? Almost all football (and most other sports as well) programs outside of big 5 conferences are money losers .... big money losers. The cost of real estate, upkeep, uniforms and equipment, coaching staff, security and staffing at games, travel expenses, and maybe the biggest expense .... insurance ...... costs are huge and gate and concessions (let alone TV or conference money) is negligible or non-existent entirely. Like another poster said, also factor in title IX and you have to add in a boatload of scholarships on the women's side to compensate (not to mention cutting other men's sports). Sacred heart football is hemorrhaging money.

It's so nice that their alumni can take a break from flipping burgers for long enough to scrape together some change and send into their alma mater.
