Florida Fire in Naples had a team that used to win in Atlanta and was ranked #1 in the nation for their age group. The father was the coach with a nephew that helped. It was the best team ever but politics ruined it and those same people then bankrupt the Sharks and Fire so now the club does not even exist.

Politics by those brothers and others who only cared about the money in the reserve if you ask me.

It’s actually the opposite; only u15 and u17 Will compete in MLS, which is the minimum required. Atl Utd is making a rational decision based on reality. Little kids don’t need to travel to get good Competition (that’s for mommy and daddy’s ego). MLS league is a complete joke in terms of organization, And logistics. All the former DA clubs in Atlanta area told MLS To pound sand when DA folded. The people that run Atl Utd are not dumb and don’t care what mommy and daddy think. They are trying to run a real program and this makes perfect sense.

]We carry 35-40 players per age group. Our top teams/players will continue to play in the MLS league, and our reserve players will play ECNL.

Sad part is the players that went into the mls elite side are going to get a rude awakening from what coaches have been promising.

I think its more about previous MLS clubs seeing now is the time to get into ECNL before the door closes. Surely you don't think MLS elite is staying for the long haul.

fc dallas is in Ecnl as well, they had to join to get games as the former DA clubs in the area all joined ECNL. Problem in Florida is the soccer level is really bad, doesnt matter what league you join. Travel teams will beat 50% of the DA teams in florida.

It also makes sense for the clubs to want to push league organizational details off on to someone else wherever possible

I bet in most of the country it will collapse. In Florida it will get 1 year because all the former DA clubs joined. It’s not a sustainable footprint. Application process just opened up again and they will take on everyone that applies to show sustainability. However it will be a third rate league. Nobody can get on the same page in this country there are so many leagues because all anyone cares about is $$$. We don’t develop we just run and hope for the best! It’s all we got. We are in a death spiral!

Sad for the boys who are thinking they are going to get more out of this MLS elite.

The training is horrific, it’s nothing more than status! Pay more for less. All these clubs are training for marathons, and sprinting champions

MLS really wants no part of the "elite" and that's why this will go away quickly. Clubs needed something to compete vs ECNL that has been taking players the past few years.
