USF Football coach VS Soccer coach

Visits by Coach Strong to schools in Florida. 120.
Visits by Coach Butehorn to schools or clubs. 0
Shakedown of football players by Coach Strong to attend "ID" camp. 0
Shakedown of players by Coach Butehorn to attend ID and summer camp. Too many to count including a "Presidents Day" sale blast!!!
One coach sees the player and the value to game and one sees the player and the value to his business.
The soccer community needs to wake up and demand a change. Starting with the athletic department and their support to keep the status quo. If Coach Strong is commanded to recruit the best from Florida then the same expectations should be on the soccer program. Until then players will be shammed into attending money grabbing camps disguised as recruiting opportunities!

How the hell would you know if Coach Butehorn visits schools or clubs? Let me guess you have a GPS on his phone. You are completely wrong, both Bob and Henry have been at TBU several times looking at players. The $**** people come up with.

this has to be the dumbest comparison I've seen in awhile. "Commanded to recruit the best from Florida" well yeah seeing as Florida produces arguably the best talent in the country in football along with TX and Cali. I'm sorry, was Keiffer not pushing his ID camp on everyone and their mother, and then just bringing in Jamaicans and T&T's every year anyway? Football coaches go and visit the players all the time, seeing as they have a staff of 28 coaches, while Butehorn has 4. If you know it's a money grab and you know your kid isn't good enough to play for USF then don't go to the camp.

lol well there is their first problem if they are at tbu several times. Only team they should be recruiting there is the 17s and Butehorn might not even be there in two years with more seasons like this past one.

I think this is more of a soccer reality issue for boys in America verses a USF issue. All of the colleges host soccer ID camps with the main purpose being to make money and finding the occasional player. They also give a lot of their scholarships to foreign players where football doesn't really have that option.

And how many "Showcase" tournaments do football coaches attend where they can watch 100's of teams with practically every recruit in the country at a singe venue over multiple days?

That would be called 7 on 7 football, which college coaches are becoming increasingly dependent on to find & evaluate talent for the next level.

Not even close. One of my kids was a HS football star and played a little 7 on 7. It's basically a summer skills program for QB's, running backs, and receivers. No blocking, no tackling. Sure, recruiters will come out to watch those positions, but you cannot compare that to the recruiting at a Showcase soccer tournament like Disney or ECNL.

I think these camps are a scam. We went to one (not USF) and were told they took 10 players over the past 3 years from their camps. They have at least 2 camps a year with over 70 players at each, so do the math to find out they are taking only 3 players our of 140 they see at ID camps each year. WHere do they get their roster from then? Overseas, where they "discover" them at tournaments, DA showcases, Disney and coaching connections seem to be the primary ways to make a D1 roster, not ID camps. We have an account on NCSA and have received almost 300 spam emails from coaches inviting my son to "ID Camps".

Football makes the school money, soccer does not. Tickets, TV, swag, alumni donations. It's really that simple. Soccer coaches don't have big recruiting budgets so the camps help. But I disagree that they're useless. A coach/staff can watch players for hours even days vs 20 minutes at a showcase. They also can get to know the player personally and watch them interact with others. Making ID events work for you is about targeting the best fitting programs.

Stupidest post yet...the recruiting budgets are rich to poor. Program budgets are rich to poor. If Bob doesn’t run ID Camps, he has to make it by on what he has. The football team prints money...as most college football teams do. Honestly, the poster of this thread should be embarrassed for being so uneducated on how college sports really work.
