    EDP Brackets?

New EDP brackets are a bit confusing but I think I have it figured out. Though if I'm wrong please correct me. I'm just a little confused how the U15 Premier 3/Premier 4 divisions are going to work in the spring as they offer both full fall and late fall options. So what happens in the spring? Do they combine both the full fall and late fall teams into oversized spring premier 3/premier 4 divisions or do they remain separate?

U11/U12 has two choices - All full year
----Four brackets of "Premier" (regional league)
----As many brackets as necessary of "Championship" (local travel)

U13-U14 has three choices - All full year
----Two brackets of EDP Conferences (really Premier 1/Premier 2, regional league) Costs for Premier 1 are almost triple that of Premier 2 but includes two mandatory tournaments. You apply to be in the EDP Conferences and find out later which you get assigned to (and get charged appropriately)
----Two brackets of "Premier" (really Premier 3/Premier 4, regional league)
----As many brackets as necessary of "Championship" (local travel)

U15 is the confusing one - Some full year, some late fall/spring

And are the Premier 1/Premier 2 what people are calling the EDP National League?

EDP 1st Division = EDP National Conference Premier 1
EDP 2nd Division = EDP National Conference Premier 2
        EDP Premier 1 = EDP Premier 3
        EDP Premier 2 = EDP Premier 4
        EDP Championship = EDP Championship

The other thing to remember is that Region 1 Eastern Regional League is being replaced by these conference divisions so existing EDP D1/D2 teams may see themselves pushed down a bracket as those teams are merged into these divisions.

Got some clarification today. At least for U15 the fall season won't count for anything as far as EDP Conference play is concerned. Teams will have the option to choose full fall or late fall leagues and EDP will do it's best to match up teams by skill level. These games will not be considered "National League Conference" games but instead are just like the old EDP D1/D2 leagues. The results will not be used to determine promotion or relegation for the spring. Instead, over the winter they will look at the prior springs record and use that to determine where to place teams for the official National League Conference games.

Looks like this US Youth Soccer National League EDP thing is taking hold...two big announcements in two days about clubs committing to this program for next season:

There aren't enough teams and players to run a decent fall U15 league because the majority of players are HS freshman. Few have the time or energy to do HS and club. In CT HS players aren't even allowed to play club while they're playing HS and other states have modified restrictions. Yes some U15s are younger and in 8th grade and they're stuck (thanks USSF for that bonehead calendar year mandate). Some leagues let those players play down in the fall so they have a place to play.

Eh, I feel like all these glossy press releases are just freshening up old news. FC Copa, NY Surf, Susa, TSF, NJ Stallions, CSA, STA, etc have all been playing EDP for years. Some use it as an additional platform for their A teams to get more recognition (more leagues=more points=higher placement in some tournaments), others use it for their B & C teams. And with all the different conferences and leagues, I feel the cache of playing in the National League or "EDP" gets lost in the shuffle.

It's also somewhat confusing as there are both club-based divisions and then individual team divisions.

Club vs. club divisions are for the top clubs that commit all of their A teams from U13-U19. Team vs.team divisions give a chance to a club that doesn't have every single age group covered with a top-level team, but has a select number of premier level teams. This is a very good way to approach this as there is a place for each type of situation.

The announcement today states that Surf are putting their top girls team in EDP.

Doubt that. Surf's girls team will be in NYCSL NPL

I really don't see how club vs club benefits anyone. Almost no clubs are strong top to bottom.

Totally agree and it's why NPL competition can be so variable. EDP with promotion/relegation better insures more consistent competition within brackets. It also lets smaller clubs or even big clubs that want to run a few teams find appropriate competition. Small clubs struggle to put together enough strong NPL teams.

One cool thing here, any teams choosing to do EDP and LIJSl now only have to pay for one set of passes.
