It's true. The Boys DA has been around for a while and has some really top programs. The girls that comprise the older WNTs were almost all pay to play ECNL girls. I don't think this group of girls was much better when they were U-17s. The U-15 team just won the Concacaf title (and had some younger girls on the roster). They beat Mexico 3-0 but it was 0-0 going into extra time. It seems like countries like Mexico are catching up (probably outplayed the US in regulation but couldn't capitalize). We'll see how the current U-17 women's team does in November in the U17 World Cup. A lot of our women's teams seem to resemble the older generation of men's teams with a lot of speed and athleticism but lacking technical skills. It simply worked on the women's side because no one else really cared about women's soccer. Times have changed.

If there is any boost in technical skill from the establishment of GDA (even if it forces the ECNL teams to also emphasize skill more) we won't see it for a few years.

It's USSF. You won't see it.

Well if its US Club you won't either. The proof is on the field. The rest of the world has gotten better in women's youth development while ECNL and College have wasted too many years of Women's development. If not for the NWSL and USWNT training . . . . God help the prospects of our women's team.

A lot of our issues may be due to the fact that ECNL is more tied towards developing talent for the college game. If you watch enough ECNL games you notice some striking things. Most of the players are interchangeable. They are mechanical in their movements and in their style of play. It becomes safe and predictable. Where is the creativity to th No outside the box and play a more Brazilian style. Taking chances is discouraged and could sit you on the bench.

You want predictable and lacking creativity? Go watch BDA games. That's what is coming for the women's side too

What’s funny is that colleges coaches want players that can create and take players on 1 v 1.

Not just robo passers that cant get any space on their own.

I don't that's accurate and if it is . . . I guess the rest of the world is going the same route since the men's youth teams are having unprecedented success these days while the women's youth teams, which used to be the most dominant in the world, are falling back towards the rest of the pack. Or if true, there are at least enough creative boys who are making their way up through the ranks to make it seem less regimented than it is.

Figures. Part of the winning over development philosophy here in the US helps create generations of players who can't do anything but run, jump and kick the ball a long way (because that's what worked best when they were in elementary and middle school).

Because they use some of the same kids who didnt make it out of u17 either. What is the definition of insanity...doing same thing over and over and expecting a different result. So there's that.

Actually there is a high rate of one and dones in the process. That means they also blow at the selection process, compiled with inadequate and poor quality coaching

Usually because they keep the same kids on their radar from u-14 on. It is almost impossible to break into it if you aren’t by that age. A small town kid with great talent will never get a chance because of internal politics- not from the right club or trainer. The US ID system is predicated on you having the money and resources to be in DA or ECNL. Or you living in an area that offers it. Check a map and you will see that a majority of the nation isn’t located within 3-4 hours f a club.

The distances to the vast majority of the nation is irrelevant. What's important is what percentage of the population is within 3-4 hours of a program. Almost half of the US is uninhabited. Geographic spacing is a ridiculous argument. Check a map and you can see how much of the US has zero population.

Within 3-4 hours? Are you crazy! Let's see - kid gets up at 6 to go to school, gets out of school between 3-4. Jump in a car and drive for three hours to a 7 p.m. practice, which lasts until 8:30 (I'm guessing an hour and a half for practice). then the kid gets back in the car and drives another three hours to home. Gets home at 11:30. That's insane. Does not include time for meals or school work. DA won't work to improve the quality of our players because it was never intended to create better players - it was a US soccer money grab. Look at the distribution of clubs - you can find them only in places where you can find tons of money.

It costs tons of money to play in the da and gda for the most part. Why would they put them in areas where the players cannot afford to join ?
