They don't have the resources to be able to cover that many teams adequately. And that's why they created the DA program. Less teams to look at.

If you have NT aspirations you should have zero problem migrating to a DA team. If you aren't willing to migrate to a DA team then you weren't dedicated enough for a NT anyhow.

If USSF was doing its job it wouldn't rely on one stop shopping. DA makes it easy for their lazy behinds and limits their ability to find talent. What good does it do NT level players to be at a DA club that sucks? Or the closest one is 4 hours away?

Exactly. Look at the clubs map on the USSDA webpage. What the GDA is saying is that if you are in the highlighted areas, or willing to drive to a club in the highlighted areas, we will look at elevating you to national team play. This ignores the huge swaths of unhighlighted areas, including Hawaii which has produced some very talented players. I guess they expect players from Hawaii to fly to LA a few times a week for practice if they want a shot at a national team roster spot. But hey, tell me again about how GDA eliminates the "pay to play" mentality.

The GDA costs are over $1000 per year LESS than ECNL this year! ECNL has to travel to Colorado next year and Seattle a couple of times at their own expense. GDA travel is greatly subsidized allowing players with less funds to participate fully in 'Soccer Life USA'. Some clubs doing travel to Phoenix, Las Vegas and other places for tournaments are over $2000 over the GDA costs. GDA is committed to cost control and providing exceptional opportunity for all qualified and eligible participants.

Wrong. You are talking about Thorns GDA. Not the National GDA League. Most GDA clubs are as expensive as ECNL. You are also ignoring my point about the wide areas of the country where there are no GDA clubs within hundreds of miles. Our next national team will be chosen from the highlighted areas on the USYS map. If you’re ok with that you’re just stupid.

US Soccer makes a lot of money so they don't really care. The US men were sitting home sucking their thumbs during the world cup and nobody really cared.

If you want to play on the NT, join a GDA program.

If your goal is college, then ECNL, NPL and others are probably better paths.

Whether that is right or wrong or one league produces stronger players than the other is irrelevant. It's just the way it is. And to be honest, it's the way it has to be. If a GDA program is going to exist, it should be the default pathway to the NTs.

True. So if you live in Hawaii, Northeast Arizona, Southeast Utah, all of New Mexico, western Colorado, western Pennsylvania, and a dozen other "unshaded" areas on the GDA map, regardless of your talent or potential, you will not be considered for a national team callup - unless you are willing to move or commute many, many hours to join a GDA club.

Not sure what the big deal is. Players already commute. We see it here locally and it’s also seen in other markets. For example you see players from SW Washington, Hood River, Bend, Eugene, Salem, Medford all commute to play soccer in the Portland metro area. You have players that live in these markets commuting to play on OYSA, ECNL and GDA teams.

                            Stop

Please stop the who's better ECNL or GDA. Just play one or the other or OYSA NPL whatever makes you happy.

Compared to other college sport there is great opportunity to play college soccer and get a good education. Coaches will find player no matter the league, they have to lots of roster spots to fill. Don't get picked for the national team, lucky you. Even worse you might have to play in the pro league for very little money.

Yes, the commute for a Honolulu player to Los Angeles is no different than a Bend player going to Portland. Stop crying about it.

I'm not aware of anyone in the USWNT or USYNT declaring that non-DA or non-GDA players won't be considered; that would be a dumb thing for the Federation to do.

I would expect, however, the bulk of the player pool to come from a) the top soccer hotbeds, and b) the dominant clubs in those areas. On the boys' side that is almost always DA; on the girls side it depends on the location.
