Maybe so but fast forward to HS - what difference does it make by soph, junior or sr year? If the player moves from 1st to 2nd team now they should be a standout and development will continue with possibility of moving up again.

This shakeup is a phenomenon that takes the most likely players to develop and moves them up a year and down in roster order now making them the least developable (on average). In that respect it certainly changes their fortune and more so if they were 1st and are now 2nd team. In HS their advantage is maintained for a season though. Certainly those bubble kids who now make a significant jump in roster number have a big club advantage this fall and will get the support the others lost.

In the end the mixing of different grades in club is the most interesting of the impacts. Truely sets up a potential grade based hierarchy and different clique base.

        Back to your Q:
Because you specifically state NPL (rather than pre ecnl) and you ask for a comparison to NEP, I assume you are referring to New England NPL. What you don't specify is Gender and Age. That would be helpful, but taken as a whole, NPL is consistently better than NEP. As far as league travel it is the same, but tournament travel is greater. Commute distance to practice is also increased for most.

For MA clubs with multiple regions the NPL team is naturally better since it pulls better girls from regional teams. There are always exceptions, and GPS ME is a good example. Those girls aren't travelling to newton for practice and keep their best, they just don't have as many to pull from.

          What is "Pre ECNL"?

Not OP, but Pre-ECNL is top team at GU13 at a club which has ECNL teams starting at GU14. At Stars/FCB their U13 Pre-ECNL teams play in a separate Pre-ECNL Northeast NPL league. At the new BBA, I "think" their Pre-ECNL team will play in GU13 New England NPL with other top teams in that age group in that league.

The New England NPL season is only 8 games? Doesn't seem like enough. How many tournaments do teams typically participate in to supplement a low number of league games?

True... At U15 and up, barring ECNL (which is a longer season)... leagues are typically 7/8 games in the spring. Tournament play is the norm, and also where the cost, travel and competition comes into play. Some teams will do 3, others will do 6. Depends on club and level. You should find this out before you pick a team, as it will certainly affect both cost and number of games your child will play in the "season".

Northeast NPL has a 16 game season, with 13 of those games being played in the spring. If New England NPL teams are playing up to 6 tournaments to fill out their schedule it seems like the travel and cost would be similar to the Northeast NPL, despite repeated claims to the contrary.

Daughter plays in New England NPL. Team played in 5 tournaments, but four were local.

All 8 NPL games were competitive. I am sure you can't say the same about northeast NPL games.

So if we are on the fence between Stars/FCB and Nefc/GPS/Aztecs etc and for 2016-17 what are the New England NPL tournaments? Vs Northeast NPL?
I think northeast has or will travel to:
                          - Florida for christmas
                          - PDA Memorial
                          - Jefferson March
                          - other?
                          Locally
                          - Scorpion for Easter this year
                          - Nefc
                          - other?

Probably should have added - what is the college coach count (realistically) at each tourney? - moving forward both leagues will have only 2nd teams from each ecnl and first from others.

Since Stars is only club where comits are readily posted it would seem that the NPL at the u16 age group references above is only one or two players in 18.

No matter what the college count is if your kid can't play it does not make any difference.
Ask any college coach in any Division and if you can play they will be interested. It will take one look not a slew of coaches scouring the teams for the hidden jewel. We are in the age of media and self promotion can do wonders for you to attract the right coaches and for the schools you are interested to see you. If I do not want to go to Arkansas State no matter
how many time the coach sits on the sideline it is irrelevant.
Contrary to the fanfare and build up of the leagues this is fairly simple.

Only 2 of the Stars U16 NPL are committed so far, but are there other 2nd teams out there with more than that at this point? Look to the current U18's where there are 15 NPL players committed. Is that the norm for 2nd teams at the New England NPL clubs?
