We had a pretty good team and a good coach in a crap league and it sucked.
Then a pretty good coach and a decent team in a better league and it was better.
Then a really good coach and a really good team in the better league and it was great, but it came with a long drive.

agreed - it's about:
1) the players on team, how good are they? from top to bottom;
2)the coach - does he run good practices, play a formation that works best for the players he has, game management
3) the parents - are they willing to go above and beyond and travel to tournaments.
if you have all three you will be successful, you'll get into the top tournaments in high brackets, and you players will get noticed -
it's not that hard folks.

Ask yourself what your daughter will really gain from all of this travel and crazy obsessive behavior, coach slandering and sometimes...and worst of all but bashing other young soccer players. You are teaching your daughters nothing with this experience. Most at aztec have shown your daughter its okay to sign a contract and then break it! You talk about GC's morals....look in the mirror people!!!

I've never understood or accepted this line from the clubs about needing to do X and Y in order to qualify for some tournament to get seen. I can see if you need a far away tournament because there's not enough good competition locally to challenge the team, but traveling across the country to get noticed by coaches from geographies where almost none of the kids are going to go to school makes no sense to me- you don't need to go to CA to get seen by BC or Syracuse. You can tell me I'm wrong but look at the commit lists for any club you want. Yeah, it made my kids feel good to get attention from X and Y but they went to play for programs in the northeast just like almost everyone else.

But I'm not claiming I'm "right"- obviously depends on what you and your kid want.

Memorial Day weekend has always been about being at a tournament for as long as I can remember.
So why are the 14s and 13s not playing anywhere?
Have they checked out? If so where are they going......or did they just want the weekend off?
just curious.

I am not against striving for that scholarship, but at what cost?

I would hope she would pick Williams over Sacred Heart even though SH is Division 1 (no offense to them, it's a good school, but academically it's not Williams). I want to foster her love of the game, her to play at a challenging level, to learn about the meaning of team and teamwork, hard work, discipline, etc. and the payoff for us and for her IS the journey. I believe parents chasing the ECNL dream just for their D "to get seen" are a bit misguided, but it's a free country.

Get over the fact that your kid is a better student than soccer player and focus on where they might fit as opposed to where you might be able to shoe horn them in just so you can claim that they are a college soccer player.
