You might be surprised on the strength of the Thorns if you played a similar level of competition. Secondly, some starters may bail after they are committed. From a positive perspective, it opens up the door for others to rise up and showcase their talents. From a negative perspective, it could impact the competitiveness of the team. From my perspective, it demonstrate a lack of integrity, but that's just one persons opinion.

Agree, but unfortunately the only solutions offered by nearly every fiscally motivated club are acronyms for programs & leagues, private training's; both of which are off menu items that cost thousands annually and show no substance other than the check gets cleared. So how much are you charging for the other half of the glass of water? The half empty glass of water is expensive and devoid of taste.

      More importantly what's in it?

Thorns was just a temporary stop off for many. Girls will likely leave because the restrictive rules are no fun. The games are boring TBH, and no fans. High school activities are much more fun.

They are all in the Thorns family and it is more beneficial for them to play v the older B team since they would be rightly crushed by the 01/02 Academy team. It's no surprise they still lost to the B team because it was the OLDER B team. In a few months, the GDA team age groups all move up and the 2003s have to combine with the 2002s instead of being stand alone 2003s like this year. Same as the GDA 2001s currently playing on the 01/02 team will move up to the GDA 00/01 team. It is beneficial for these two teams to play each other for development and for fun. Some of them will end up together on next year's GDA 02/03 team and will play together all the time. GDA is in a unique situation where the age groups shift every year as to what age you combine with so playing across two age groups makes a lot of sense. Unlike OYSA club teams, the Thorns academy and ODP teams are combined at the HS age groups so the players are challenged to compete with & against older players on a daily basis.
Do the current single year 2003 gda players really have to merge with the 2002 gda players for 2018? If a few 2002s drop out and a few 2002s join, that doesn't leave a lot of spots for 2003s on the new 02/03 team. Is Thorns Academy really going to cut some 2003 players? Why doesn't the gda have single birth year teams?

Are they scrapping the harsh restrictions on high school activities? I’ve heard rumors but no clarification yet.

              Thorns Gda teams for 2018-19:
              2000/01
              2002/03
              2004
              2005

The pyramid gets smaller the older you go. The 2003s were lucky to have a single year team this year. 2002 and older all had to share. The 2003s will survive just like the 2002s and up did.

Yes, but does that include parent travel?

The Odp team is not a reserve team for the thorns 02/01 team , they just carry the logo and receive nothing like the TA clubs. The only reason that team didn't show up is because they don't want to show how many players they have lost already. They won't even scrimmage anyone in fear of how bad they are because of players leaving . The only reason why they are combine is because the quality of the program isn't there and your program needs body's.

What a cluster. Losing to a B team.

Standard to lose to older B teams or younger boys teams. Just like USWNT loses to u15 boys teams. Its not like the 03GDA team lost to the 03ODP team. Besides it was a friendly.

                          That’s unfortunate but not unexpected.

Exactly! It would be like losing to an ECNL team, just embarrassing

The Thorns should scrimmage ECNL teams. Settle it once and for all.

That would do something "once and for all" for sure. It would put the final nail in the Thornz Asylum coffin.
