It’s a gamble. Could invest the money in stocks and earn more instead of doing Prepaid. Chances are the kids won’t get into the Florida college of choice or will want to go out of state.

What is your definition of a bubble BF applicant? What grades/scores/background?

Like this idea because students can only use their junior high school transcript anyway to apply and know their first choice. Make an early mutual decision.

But you're also stuck with ED no matter what. It favors families who can write a check and don't care about financial aid.

Athletes should do it because coaches need to know for certain you're committed AND accepted (at many schools just having a coach backing you isn't enough to get through the admissions process). If you apply ED or even EA (still early but non binding) and get rejected a coach still can fill your spot.

Good points. Students break ED contracts but it does let the colleges know who is more of an academic or athlete sure commit.

If the Early Decision included the financial package or Bright Futures expected money then it doesn’t discriminate. Sure top students like to weigh the ten different College offers and money and announce their choice on May 1st but that is blocking many other qualified students from getting admitted to top Florida colleges.

We have Florida’s top students against the world’s top students vying to get a freshmen seat at UF. Most frosh have enough credits to be sophomores when they arrive in the fall and then the junior college students who showed promise transfer in to UF and intermingle. This rejuvenates and balances out the student life.

The perfect freshmen students, test takers, and community leaders have to find a way to intermingle in the library stacks.

Freshman year out of state money grab. Just admit it. UF out of state tuition is highest of all big FL universities.

About 25% of the UF freshmen 2018 class will be from out of state, if statistical trends continued. That means many more out of state freshmen had to be admitted to actually get 1/4 of the incoming class to be from out of state.

Same with pushing kids to apply - the more applications the lower their acceptance number are, making the school appear more exclusive. Some even give out free applications to top students like candy. If it's practically no cost to you and it's easy with the Common App, why not? May as well see what you can get.
UF had over 40,000 freshman applications, 7,000 more than for 2017, but has not really added any more freshmen seats over the last 30’yrars.

Which makes their acceptance rate go down, making it appear even more exclusive. It is very much a numbers game.

It has been said before... 700 white boys from in state got accepted. Think about that.

It is unacceptable in a state as large as Florida. Everywhere I go in Florida there are the same stories. Students with 4.4, almost 1400, college prep,AP,dual enrollment courses in high school, community service an leaders, and do not get admitted. The 700 Florida boys most surely applied to FSU, USF, and UCF and got it. They all apply to the same colleges.
