To be honest, there's not really point for any girls travel leagues, especially if "travel" involves a TSA checkpoint. A PNW league involving the top 8-10 clubs from around the Pacific NW, possibly broken up into divisions, with a qualifying/seeding tournament in the summer, would meet the needs of MOST of the elite girls. Perhaps a regional or national tournament at the end of the season.
Are there enough elite girls (NT prospects) in Portland to merit a subsidized academy program? Probably not.
Too bad the different organizations (USYS, US Club) don't play nice with each other.

The US Club state league model was a catastrophic failure in Oregon (OPL) and of course folded then just to make it even worse 2 local clubs registered for the US Club offering Ecnl. All have gone down the drain in Oregon.

The Confussion
The confussion is the revelence to a third party.
The boys DA is revlent to MLS and the USL. Most players these day are coming from the DA. MLS and USL need quality players to continue to sell tickets and make money. Their is also internal advanatages to home grown players in MLS. For colleges there is some importance to winning in boys soccer so putting a quality product on the field has some importance, I guess.
One the womens side, who really care beside mommy and daddy. Other than Portland the womens professional league is not well attended by fans and womens college soccer has become the title nine solution for colleges. Just look at the PAC12. Every school has womens soccer only 5 have mens soccer. It is all about providing equal opportunity for men and women and filling those football and basketball stadiums.
Localy the Timbers DA is considered the top flight for boys soccer a true path way. For girls it is a clubs meal ticket. The club with the most girls makes the most money.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;2259468]Special elite teams must travel to get quality games. We have none in Oregon, so to your point why all the useless travel?[QUOTE]
Exactly. Oregon teams need to travel to get BEATEN by special elite teams, but there's no teams locally of equivalent quality. Maybe if there was one elite team, but I'm not sure that's the best model either.
Maybe Oregon soccer ought to be like Oregon theater--if you want to be a star, move to Broadway, and even the touring shows that come to town have better actors than any of the local companies.

But then, that motivates a lot of these club fights. OUR club does things the RIGHT way, so of course we want to recruit the best players from the other clubs who, like Mr. Mom, are doing it wrong.
And if our club competes in a different league, nobody's going to kick our ass and prove us wrong.

Really. You'd do better to offer up substantive criticisms than we can take seriously, if you're concerned about this, than juvenile comments like that.

No. You know what you are getting when you are sucking exhaust fumes waiting in the drive through line. Same here.
