Many good coaches already coach at town clubs, you just have to have the respect and knowledge for the game to find and recognize them.

What drives all of the expensive, pay to play national leagues is the allure of a D1 scholarship. These leagues promote and promise exposure for D1 rides. If and when those soccer scholarships dry up - you will quickly find those leagues and clubs that are in those leagues fold. Until that time there are plenty of suckers that are willing to spend lots of money in pursuit of those D1 dollars. Too bad they haven’t realized that at the end of the day, if they added up all of the money and time they’ve spent on youth soccer versus the scholarship money their kid actually gets - it’s almost a wash.

There are plenty of local clubs with "Dads" that have prior college level playing experience and dedicated the time to USSF or National licenses and just coach b/c they love the game and want to pass on that passion to their kids and community. I'd take that Dad coach over the "professional trainer" who's there mainly for the check any day - and the cost is 1/3rd.

Of course depends on age group but I know clubs like Wall, Howell, Real NJ, Haddonfield, Millstone, etc. have some good teams that obviously have some good coaches. Depending on age group some of these teams can play with anyone but it’s not club wide varies by age or boy/girl team.

Exactly right- and you can get just as much money in Merit awards at most private colleges as you can for soccer - unless you're the top .5 percent player.

My daughter was a very good player but an even better student. Got a small $ scholarship from one school and a much larger academic one from another school. Ended up taking the academic one, played intramurals and loved it. We spent about $25-30k on soccer academies from U13 through HS.

Slavery!? haha Then spend $10k per year having your kid play garbage soccer. I will take the free slavery where the actual top kids are trained well .... FOR FREE!! If they do a good enough job, they move your kid up to a better place!
