They are all money hungry! Soccer is a big business these days and that’s why the clubs are in it - to make money!

      USSF Financials

I was looking at US Soccer Federation financials to try to understand what drove them to shut down the DA. Their latest available financials are ones for the year ended 31-Mar-2019.

They had net assets (assets - liabilities) of $150 million.

However, revenue - expenses - investment returns was -$21 million; in other words, for 2019 they were in the hole by $21 million/year.

The whole coaching program in its entirety costs the USSF $9 million (that is just expense figure, ignoring all associated revenue; and it is expense of all coaching, not just DA).
      Management expenses are $33 million.

So it seems surprising to me that the USSF decided to cut the DA to partially plug the $21 million hole rather than trying to attack the $33 million management expenses instead.

Dumb response. Total mismanagement of USSF all around. Look at the nepotism and the working conditions (there are a bunch of good articles about this) and you would realize the lawsuit has nothing (from a financial perspective) with it folding.

It is both. The mismanagement was a huge factor, probably the biggest. A potentially MASSIVE lawsuit from the USWNT definitely does not help. They know theyre losing, they know theyre paying out a lot and that was certainly at least one factor in shutting the DA. Theyre asking for ~$70MM and will probably get at least half of it.

Lawsuit was definitely part of it but just one of the factors.

The lawsuit is a big factor. Its not just the GDA activities that are folding but also any NT investment this year.

The "pay-to-play" and "no oversight needed here" crowd is sacrificing the future and growth of the market for quick profits now.

The next road to the regional and NT team will require a $2000 ODP training, and additional $4000 in travel per season.

                        Lawsuit

Judge tossed the equal pay portion of the suit. Looks like they freed up some cash. Ruling was pretty straight forward and another reminder that lawyers are only interested in $ since they still get theirs. Nothing burger from the get go. Dont see them being successful with the civil rights side of it either and even if they are the $ amount would not be significant.
