Implementing a break doesn't mean able to play both, just one or the other. The only REAL difference is that the player would be on the roster and maybe practice but not play unlike GDA that wouldn't allow that. That is hardly different since every club already had players not "rostered" that were playing in HS that would join the team the day after HS soccer was finished.

It would mean that every team plays the teams at the same level as them with minimum travel.
AMEN - Unfortunately capitalism doesn't work that way so any tool with some money and an idea can start a league. It should be 1 league with various divisions setup locally with a national system between the upper levels of the regional divisions with relegation rules so teams are playing exactly who they should. BUT that will never happen.

yes, this should be how it is set up. It's what's best for the kids. Why can't US soccer just set this up and not allow any other format?

correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there way more teams playing ECNL than GA/GAL? That would tilt things to look like this

Correct me if I am wrong but weren't most of these clubs in GDA at some point? Club swap meets between leagues is commonplace anymore.

I see teams part of ECNL that did not win a game in GDA.

All the leagues have a handful of good teams, a lot of middle of the road ones and some really poor ones. And some of that changes based on kids transferring in and out of various clubs/leagues as well.

The reason that was not allowed for GDA was safety of the player. GDA also had 1 game a week too.
My kid did both. Her ECNL team was picked before high school and was rostered. So when hs ended, her club team picked right up. In fact, they had club games in December for ECNL getting ready for Sanford showcase.

But kids in public school were not offered a waiver.

So "implementing a break" is completely different and is open to all not only parochial/privately schooled kids.
There were many public school kids that "implemented a break" by not being officially added to the roster until after the HS season was over. It was a rampant problem in NY & NJ.

Obviously, but GAL trying to compare itself to ECNL is laughable. Yes, commendable that GAL was able to get 20 of the top 100 clubs from across the country to play in their league, but there is obviously no comparison.

For you in EPA what does it mean?
FC Bucks, Delco, PDAS, PF? Not much. None of those clubs are head and shoulders above the Ukies, Classics or SJEB. In fact besides PF the other ECNL clubs are not on par from u9 on up. It will be interesting to see how this new league does without the HS hurdle.

Be happy where your kid is and don't worry about where your kid isnt.

As another poster said if your kid is happy on her team - be happy and don’t worry about another league - competition is a good thing as it forces everyone to bring their A game.

My kid is actually on an ECNL team and I am glad there will be another league with a national platform as it gives us all options and forces clubs to be competitive or they will lose members.
Uh huh, sure you are. If GDA couldn't make it with backing of USSF, why do you think this league will be competitive with ECNL when most of the better clubs (and many players) have bailed for ECNL? This league may not even make it, let alone be on the same playing field. It's a repackaged NPL, which makes sense because many of the clubs in GA were NPL not that long ago.

When the clubs in ECNL and GA are matched up head to head by rankings, the disparity is even more apparent. Total washout.

But kids in public school were not offered a waiver.

So "implementing a break" is completely different and is open to all not only parochial/privately schooled kids.
Blatantly untrue. Most waivers were for top players in prep schools. Most other private school kids did not get them. Bottom line, as always has been the case, rules were put in place to be able to hang the masses, not for the studs. Like all the rest of USSF rules. Only applied when they needed to crack the whip on average players and clubs.
