Sure. They are staff involved in NE club soccer so of course fixated on the kids. It is not about winning meaningless youth championships it is developing high level soccer players. That is what doesnt occur.

You are going to laugh but this is where the regional and odp programs excelled. All the top players went through it. Every kid on uva and probably most of duke came through odp/regional teams.

I'm laughing at this one, not because it isn't true but rather because the ECNL contingency around here spent soooooo much time convincing everyone around here that ODP didn't matter when it is pretty clear it did and from the sounds of it, still does.

GK on UVA (L.I) did play ODP but she also played ECNL. It is not either/or.

All of the PA kids on both teams did as well. I also remember the MI kids on UVA.

Some of the kids (MI, etc.) did GDA too. It wasn't up and running when the older kids came through the system.

I remember all of them too, regional/odp. for their regions. And yes, I recall UVA GK as well (FL).

All of the bickering that went on about ODP doesn't change the fact that just about every kid who made the state team back when in the day ended up playing in college at some level and all of the kids that made it to the regional pool generally ended up playing at fairly high levels there. The thing about the regional pool in ODP was they typically found what were the best kids from the region at a very early age and brought them together into high powered training groups that both taught them how to play soccer at a higher level than they were at and toughened them to the realities of making it to a big stage. The process was grueling and the kids actually had to work to stay in it but that prepared them to move up to the college ranks. It was a difference maker. Sadly what replaced it was nothing more than a glorified accolade mill run by the clubs.

Agreed. Some people have no idea what kids have been through to get where they are. Those camps/regional high powered training groups were tough, mentally and physically. The coaches would knock you off intentionally to see if you had it in you to battle back for your spot.

A different era. That was then, and this is now. ODP is as irrelevant as an eight rack tape player.

Thanks for jumping in after the fact. No kidding.
ODP/Regional was THE place that development did happen. There is an overall lack of development today as a result. You went to a place that you had to fight for your spot. It wasn't handed to you by your club coach who may not make you work as hard or didn't fix your bad habits because they were winning.
                              That is the discussion.

Ya, let's have a discussion about what might have happened ten years ago.
