We now have 40 million unemployed people in this country out of a total of 130 million prior to the shutdown (30%) and the number is still climbing. It hit the low to middle income workers first (majority black and brown) and now it will get to work on the middle and upper class work from home keyboard warriors, government and healthcare workers. You cannot shut down the economy to this scale and not expect it it impact all areas. States and local governments are going bankrupt (they are collecting no sales taxes, income taxes, have covid costs and the cost of unemployment and other safety net programs are increasing dramatically). The impact of this is immeasurably bad. You shut down the economy, no one is left to pay the bills. Do you think states will be building roads and bridges, hospitals, schools, when they cannot even pay the bills? We have done it to ourselves and it will take generations to recover.

Now we come to find out 60% of all deaths are nursing homes residents and 80%+ are people over 65 years old. Could we have spent $2 trillion protecting the vulnerable and let everyone else get back to work? The public policy healthcare experts were idiotic in the policies recommended and the politicians bought it hook line and sinker.

How many of you on TS were preaching for shutdown until vaccine? Until July? Are still for a shutdown? This policy has destroyed our country. The full impact is not yet visible, but we should all be very very scared.

Sure, we should do that. But it also means we will have to lose our 2-year replacement cycle smartphones and all the cheap **** that we buy at Wal Mart, since making it in the U.S. means people won't even do that work for 4x the pay they're getting in China.

No one is arguing that everyone should make the same amount of money or that people shouldn't be able to get rich, but there is a point where the populous in any country with any type of government isn't going to easily accept the super-elite class having a wealth disparity of the magnitude suggested above. Universal healthcare would also take that burden off of employers who probably should not have been responsible for health care in the first place.
