A.F. was not a good recruiter. Half the starting line up for Syracuse are local kids. You also have 4 local kids on the Duke squad. You just can’t lose that sort of local talent if you want to be competitive. Then you still need to go out and grab a few National studs if you really want to be good.

Half - I don't think so...more like 20-25% Yes, some good ones who play as freshmen, but then again, the team went 3-15 and lost its last 13..another one of those "coach pursuing other opportunities"

so Duke offers you and BC...Where are you going to go? Get real. AF does not get NT players if they have other offers from schools like Duke.

Crappy argument because most of the big southern schools don’t even have men’s soccer...at all.

Whether they start or not isn’t really the issue. They are good enough to get out in the field in ACC competition so even if they really were truly bench level players who caught a break (hypothetically) you have to think that they are better than what is sitting on BC’s bench and sucking up scholarship dollars. You don’t actually build a top level program from the top down but rather the bottom up and then you land a few studs.

The tired D3 thinking that the name on the top of the diploma is the only thing that matters isn’t actually true. The kids that go to Duke end up having to sit at least a year because the roster is so good. If they are worth their salt a good recruiter should be able to sell a chunk of money and early playing time to land solid recruits. That’s their job. It’s not a bad trade off for the sort of serious prospect that is weighing offers from ACC schools.

Nope. the tired lower end ACC thinking that believes the aim of a really good player is to breeze into ANY ACC team and play. perhaps the better kids believe its worth battling for a spot on a team that is actually good. Stop with the ACC schools rhetoric. UVA =/= Syracuse. Duke =/= BC.

                    Levels.

and btw, if you can crack the roster as an impact sub, then maybe you are not as good as you think you are. Just saying.

Yeah..well the multi-year RI Player of the Year who went to Duke saw significant time as a freshmen. Have to agree with the last post, AD at UNC said of Briana Pinto that she was one of the most credentialed freshmen ever at UNC but she'd still have to 'fight a veteran roster" for a starting spot.

Sitting in the bench sux. If you’ve never had a kid gone through the experience you are lucky. Awefully tough to turn down a 80% deal and a real good shot at instant playing time from BC when you are looking at only a 50% deal from a loaded program like Duke if you are a competitive kid. A good recruiter can sell it.

That’s why the clowns who were taking pot shots at that kid were out of their minds, it’s tough to dislodge a proven player on one of those top end programs.
