Some of the many potential reasons why players move on:
They want to play for a better soccer program.
They want to go to a better school, with a career after soccer in mind.
They want more playing time.
They want more scholarship dollars.
They want to play for a better coach.
They want to play with better teammates.

How about they want a chance to play for something.
Penn State played 6 playoff games last year, won Big Ten Conference.
Have made tournament every year, and Big Ten final most years. For players at a school like BC that's a pretty big draw.

No doubt that PennState has a much better soccer program than BC ( women and men alike).

Please stop! If PSU had UNC, FSU, UVA and all the other powerhouse teams that BC has to compete with for recruiting and playing, then they’d be at the bottom of the conference too. Seriously, Big 10 is maybe the 4th or 5th toughest conference and ACC is either 1st or 2nd depending on how the Pac-12 looks in a given year.

ACC is tough. But PSU has won a national championship. My recollection vs Duke....ACC. Was at the game...thanks CASL tourney.
I am not a fan of most of the Big 10 schools not only academically but soccer. However a national championship is a bell that can not be unrung.

Any UNC, FSU, etc. haven’t won a national championship??? PSU has won one and that’s certainly an accomplishment, but it’s a lot easier to get into a tourney and stay there when your competition is weaker overall. Please don’t tell me that you think Michigan, etc. in the Big 10 are as good as the ACC or Pac-12 schools overall.
And I’m not saying BC is some powerhouse, but let’s compare apples to apples. It’s path to a tourney bid is a lot harder than PSU’s.
Sure, but BC isn't competing in the recruiting game against UNC, VA, FSU.
More like Pitt & Cuse.
So you don't think the national team players including SC and maybe a few others passed on other top ACC programs when AF came calling? The kids playing now at BC and coming in were AF recruits.
Remember you have to go back in time several years (at least 3-4) with all of this not real time. Even the kids made decisions based on the teams 3-4 yrs ago.
3-4 yrs ago, USC and West Virginia were top teams as well.

That is why instead of 1 seat (just the conf champ) the NCAA gives ACC at least 8 at large bids. And if you are top seed, byes. Boo hoo.
