Was it late Junior year? Because there are only a handful of 2020 boys committed to selective d3s at this point, and no 2021s

Coaches can support solid (slightly below standard) candidates if they are exceptional players. It's shocking to see so many parents with no real understanding of the entire process and expect coaches to pull strings for their child when there is no chance of that happening.
The sentiment here may be somewhat accurate but not the details. Before BTNT blows a gasket can we at least agree that kids legitimately on the U17 USMNT aren't going to a NESCAC or any elite D3? That's nonsense. And there are very good to elite D1s that would take a 3.6/1150 U17 USMNT kid. Now the OP didn't make such a claim so he should listen carefully to the advice of getting in somewhere way over your kid's head may not be the smartest move.

Not the poster but yes later in junior year for boys D3, even well into summer and early fall. But you want to be able to apply to your top school either ED or EA so you need an "offer" before mid October or senior year

Can I just say that I am really enjoying this thread, it is helpful, before our resident troll makes his appearance?

Could you please share what you believe are the credentials my kid would need in the classroom and out on the soccer field to realistically get a tip from one of the top NESCAC’s? My freshman daughter is a starter on an ECNL team but admittedly closer to a bench player than an impact player. She’s also on the varsity but at this point gets more time in the JV games than she does with the varsity. Historically she’s been a solid B+ student. Does she have any chance?

Top NESCAC I don't think that would work. You need to be a straight A student and a top half of the team player. More reasonable D3 yes. Is her highschool very competitive? That can make a difference.

What sort of grades and accolades does it typically take?

                    For top NESCAC?

                    Straight A's
SAT in the average range for the school
ECNL/DA/NPL starter who plays the whole game and is clearly a top player on the team, these are kids who a step down from a D1 player. So if the D1 player is the gatorade player of the year, the NESCAC girls are her teammates.

Good test taker too... standardized test scores matter.

Oh come on, you are actually describing a low level D1 prospect. That’s a big part of the problem on this site. You are embellishing to fit an agenda. Also there is a huge gulf between a Gatorade player of the year and even the rest of the pack of D1 prospects. The kids you are talking about as D3 tip prospects are really only making the starting one up their junior year and aren’t pulling in accolades until their senior year.

Based on what info? Lots of the D3's don't want players announcing anything until after they are admitted, especially the high academic schools.

Totally true. Generally no publicity until after ED decisions come out in December. D3 commits are not posted everywhere like D1’s because academics are very important and acceptance is not guaranteed.
