Coach overreacted to a very tough situation. He disagrees that there was contact - referee stated that there was inadvertent face-to-face contact in the post-game argument - but coach has acknowledged to OYSA and to parents in the age group that he mishandled the situation. He also apologized to parents of other team after the game for leading to the suspension of the game.

United reps at the hearing were surprised by the decision, but will not appeal.

United has also requested that the final decision be published, as well as the referee reports and statements of both coaches. Think there is value is seeing all sides to the situation and to serve as a reminder that even in tough situations, coaches have to keep things in control or face the ramifications.

Beyond that club is using it as a teaching moment with its coaches, and a reminder that regardless of whose version of the facts you accept, the coach's conduct was not acceptable.

Nothing else to really say on it.
Pretty sure the coach actually said he was "unsure" if he contacted the ref and could not definitively say that he did not make contact. Do you want to talk about how it came to be the coach was so close to the referee an allegation is even possible?

United reps surprised; so are those that continue to see referee abuse minimized.

The coaches suspension was not only upheld, it was increased and he was given the maximum punishment. A full season ban and it wasn't hard decision - it was unanimous.

FWIW, at a UPDX game this weekend. Referee continually verbally abused by parents and the coach. Must be the culture.

We played the 2007 boys team a couple weeks ago and the updx parents are certified whack jobs. Feel sorry for the kids. Shame on their coaches.

And the FC Portland sidelines have become a lot more pleasant in the past year or two.

Seems like there is a new destination club for toxic parents in town.

Your guy got what he deserved. And nobody is apologizing for anything more than, "Sorry you were offended by us forgetting to say alleged."

OYSA admitted they should have said "alleged" since they hadn't done the hearing yet. That's it.

Coach "removed his team from competition" and committed referee abuse and "violent conduct." He DID NOT DISAGREE THERE WAS NO CONTACT. He said he didn't believe he made contact but cannot say for certain he did not.

United Reps were surprised, by what? The behavior of their coach?

United has those documents too so post them.

Did you actually say, "regardless of whose version of the facts you accept.." Yes, you did, ROTFLMFAO!!!!! Is that like an alternate fact? You clown, theirs only one set of facts.

FWIW, I've encountered the coach. This didn't surprise me one bit!
