Very true, but there are plenty of instances where families are led to believe that the deal they are being offered is the best deal they are going to get and that really influences their thinking and almost forces them into taking a lesser deal than they might otherwise be able to get. If you read a lot of the recruiting threads on this site a lot of the advice is to basically reach for schools so there is ample reinforcement to that notion out there if you need it. The sad part is a lot of that reinforcement is just part of what is actually a false narrative. Seriously, the kid who is sitting on the bench at say Harvard might very well be a solid contributor at say a Columbia but their family never really make that connection because Harvard looks so much better on the commitment lists than Columbia does. Sure there is a difference, but is it really that big a difference? Is the club coach really sitting the family down and laying it out like "you can be a solid contributor your freshman year for Columbia or you can make the roster at Harvard but might never see the field much?" That's where the clubs let the families down and why there are so many transfers. If you want to see evidence of this happening go look at the commitments lists from the last 10 years and then go look at how many of the kids never made a dent wherever they went. It's sort of sickening to then start giving a whole lot of credit to the clubs for the ones who actually pan out when they have so many who don't. Just saying.

No college coach is offering money to any kid that isn't going to have a contributing spot on their team. Maybe books, food and board. No real $$. They do a lot of evaluating before the $$ is offered.

I dont think anyone implied its make a call. I do think there are kids all over the map who are recruited well above where they can actually play. Why? Because the schools recruit the top few heavily and the rest far less so. It is a poor use of time focusing on mid level players vs the kids you think are difference makers.

Let’s get back to the thread topic. Harvard has a talented roster but is not playing to their full potential. A winger has been identified. Who cares what her club was! I also think the GK situation is questionable. The senior GK was struggling at times throughout the Brown game. Any other positions?
