Philosophically yes. However, the best player at one age group/skill group could then become the “worst” at the higher group no?

possibly but are you worried about being the worst playing up or getting better?
if you arent good enough to be middle of the pack at the upper age group dont move-try to train with them until you get to the middle of the pack then play up
most of the time a player playing up gets good PT

It also depends on the teams. Playing up doesn’t guarantee a higher level of play.

Most clubs do and should only play up players that will be impact players on the older team. Just because you're a stud on a younger team doesn't mean you will stand out on an older one. It's very situational based on the player, the team and also the age. A younger player playing up that doesn't play isn't getting much out of it. Plus, pain in the azz parents need to see the kid is good otherwise they'll all want their kid playing up too.

playing up i agree-training up will always benefit the younger player just in terms of having to play against bigger and faster kids

Yet correction is little and opportunities are abundant. Favorites are favorites.
There's also politics involved. Everyone at the academy practice can look around and see 1 or 2 kids that don't deserve to be there. Why are they there? Ask the coaches....

                  Coaches or "jealous" parents?

Or certain players are simply better than your daughter. I know mine is.

Just saw the 2019 recruiting classes and UCONN’s class is not even mentioned in the rankings. They are I. Trouble again.

huh, I think if kids are at the Academy practice and know other kids there just don't rate, then how does that make the parents jealous?

Sure. Jealous parents that think their kid should be in there. That’s all it ever is. Time to move on and wish this kid luck in the fall.
