Colleges recruit by grad year. Colleges don’t care is a graduating senior is 17 or 19. More than anything, grad year is simply the best option (no option is totally fair) because it aligns with school, college, social groups and gives a full seemless team to every grade, every year. Simple!
You assume everyone playing youth soccer wants to play in college. Youth sports are youth sports and fairness is fairness. Allowing a 14 year old boy to play against 11 year old is ridiculous. So age brackets and cut off is needed.

What makes August 1st so special? Why not July 1st? September 1st?

Realistically, how often will that happen? Put a rule in so cater to what, .0005% of the population?

Oh sure everyone is paying tens of thousands just so their kids get some fresh air and then head off to the parents favorite NESCAC

No different than spending large sums of money to have a lake house, go skiing every weekend, etc.

For some, it's an expensive, time-consuming hobby.

Who cares. Big news is always bad news in youth soccer.
