    makes you feel good

does that make you feel better? state cup was an 11 player roster of a team that had left the club more than two months earlier. the only kids that played state cup were the kids that were

guest players? when does a player stop being a guest player? every kid that travels with us has been fully rostered with our club for almost the entire year. Two of these kids play with other FYSA rosters with clubs that understand how to put a kid's interests first. The result is a roster of 21 kids that all believe they are on the FC Florida team.

only competitive parents at other club would call them guest players. we just call them kids that are having a great time, getting great exposure to college coaches, beating some of the best teams in the country (many of which also have similar models of assembled academy teams, multi-club combinations, or impactful guest players). its a great program of club cooperation that should be a model that others follow.

Or, we can keep thinking that FYSA is the only way to define a club, the only way kids should participate in youth soccer and the only way to use soccer to help get into college. we think that's silly. we would rather not participate in FYSA, cooperate with a few other clubs when appropriate and give great opportunities for kids.

again, others should do the same. it's one of the only way to get our Florida kids into great exposure situations in national events.

Did Brandon/WFF really lose to a side of 10?

LOL - what a pathetic club.

not at all. just think it would make sense for people to think about the goals of youth soccer differently. we all have been a little like blind sheep, watching our kids play within a rules structure of FYSA that is more about club protection and less about consumer choice.

the bigger problem is that we are all following the changes of a group that cares only about the national soccer system. we had a system last year that grouped kids based on class year, which is how they will move through school and ultimately go to college. now we have a small group of people that make all of the decisions for youth soccer that think we should follow the rest of the world and group kids based on birth year. but this system cares not about college at all. college coaches would much rather see a team that represents the incoming class of freshman, but now they have to look at two different are groups just to see their incoming recruits. and kids have to play with two different class years, just to match a system that has nothing to do with college.

so our team just wants to put teams together that help kids get into college. its called the FC Florida Prep program for that reason. we don't care about FYSA rules that protect clubs and we don't care about a US system that lines up with the pro academies. we will grab kids, go to games out of state, get exposure for our kids and do our best to get them into college. our US Club team model may be somebody else's FYSA guest play model, but who said FYSA ever had it right to begin with? in the meantime, our boys are having fun and they are getting a lot of calls from coaches right now. we are really amazed. and our kids are no better than anyone else's kids, but our program is structured to maximize their exposure. really, we think every one should do this. Florida could send ten teams, structured the same way, to compete with national competition and they would be successful...but, instead, we will likely continue to do the same thing that we have doe for years, and kids will max out at State Cup, without a college coach in sight.

seriously, think about it differently. how do we really help kids while having fun. we have our approach. I am sure there are many more - anything different than the current system is likely a good idea.

but your US Club Soccer teams have a mixture of older and younger 99's as well as some 00's?

This is not true. We have not yet used an older 99. It may appear this way because we are using three 99s from our U17 team in recent tournaments, but they were always true U16s that often played 'up'. Their absence was clearly felt at State Cup as these boys played U17, while others were not included at all because of the club split.

The team that won EDP and US Club Regional included no older 99s. This team is still more than 50% from the year 2000. We have never used an older 99. This wasn't even allowed in any tournament that we have seen. It wasn't possible.

                  Stop defending

21 kids is not a soccer team, so please stop saying it is. You want to win and will never stop collecting players until you do. That's fine if the kids and parents are aware of it going in, but please stop calling it a team. Just call it what it is: a player collecting system designed to benefit a small core. Just be honest please and stop acting like you care about these kids. Those who have been recruited and discarded know the truth.

This is not sour grapes, by the way. Kid was rerecruited recently and said he would rather play rec than with FC Florida again.

Stop acting like we care about kids? Please don't get upset if we don't follow your advice.

All I'm asking is for you to be honest with the kids and parents you are recruiting. If you have 21 kids in your collection you obviously don't care about the kids or you would find a way to make teams that were fair and everyone could play. Be honest is all I'm asking. Or at least say, "we care about your kid until we find someone better." At least that would more accurate.

Be honest? Really? You call anonymous accusations of dishonesty on Talking Soccer an honest thing to do? First of all, it's not a 'collection' of kids. They are not our kids. They come to practice and the coach trains them. It's too much for one team, but not enough for two teams. Parents are smart. So are the kids. We grant immediate releases when kids want to leave. If they are not enjoying the program, they can leave and find better situations. They also have the right to complain, but we haven't heard any complaints. Posts on Talking Soccer don't count. Sorry, we do care about the kids and you just sound spiteful saying that we don't.
