At 10 years old they should be thinking about nothing more than developing thier individual skills, decision making on the field and when it the right time to dribble/pass/shoot (decision making on the field). You can teach a player how to win in a game, or the idea of thinking beyond todays game at any age, but the older a player gets the harder it becomes for them to grow in their basic skills. So once again at the younger ages there is absolutely no reason to worry or even post standings.
    Reasons for keeping standings:
    1. Having good data all around about teams level,
    2. Standings are fun (my kids have always wanted to know where they were in the standings whether it was outdoor or futsal) and other sports offer it at younger ages than local soccer does.
    3. Areas that produce more top level players don't seem to have any problem keep tracking of scores/standings at ages younger than us. I disagree with designing our system around what is best for finding and developing the top .1%, but if you care about developing that top .1%, taking away competitive elements used elsewhere in the world would seem to be a mistake.
    4. This state/fed should never, ever rollout another mass mandate that doesn't have widespread support or has been tested extensively on a small scale.

      Reasons for Not Keeping Standings:

      1) Coaches select kids and tactics with the result in mind rather than with good development in mind.

Now, of course you can do both, but there are very few coaches at work in the country who can appropriately manage both priorities.

In any case, not keeping tables hasn't worked because the coaches still teach crap. They can't help themselves. Or, more likely, they don't know the difference anyway.

Personally, I think they should put all the scores and tables back in. If it's not going to work, at least let the dipchits who think it's important have their tables back so they'll stop blaming poor dev results on the only thing they actually know about.

Now we have some idiot “consultant” trying to get us to stop keeping score. Guess what. The kids that will drive our country to get better are the hyper competitive girls that want to win so bad they can taste it. The elite talents that will outwork everyone. They are the drivers of our women’s programs over time. Take away wins take away cups and trophy’s and they will go play basketball. Further weakening the future of US women’s soccer.

Why do all the dumbest ideas come from European consultants?
High priced consultants with MBA's and Puma sweat pants might not help make the best decisions.
