The CARES Act signed into law by President Trump on March 27, 2020, gives states the option of extending unemployment compensation to independent contractors and other workers who are ordinarily ineligible for unemployment benefits. Please contact your state’s unemployment insurance office at the website or phone number

    Enough context for you?

Think they are confusing stimulus check and unemployment.

Look at the NYS Department of Labor under the Cares Act for PUA. CLEARLY states self-employed and 1099 workers are eligible. Idiot.

Stimulus is a one time $1200, if you qualify and you might not get that much (depends on what income you filed the prior year). Unemployment is a few hundred a week, also dependent on how much you made and varies state to state depending on the size of their $pool. That won't go very far in the pricey northeast. Several of our friends have their young adult kids move back in with them either because they're out of work or are worried they will lose their jobs soon and want to bank as much as they can now. Mine graduated last spring, didn't get a job until the fall and had plans to move out this summer. They're still thankfully working but everyone took a 30% pay cut to get through this time. Then there's the hundreds of college seniors who are graduating who will struggle to find work - even if they had a job already lined up, a lot of companies are rescinding offers. Getting waitressing or other fill-in jobs while you look for your post college job won't be easy either. This age cohort also struggled mightily during and after the 2008-9 crisis

Yes they absolutely do qualify - normally the wouldn't, however. The "gig economy" isn't so appealing any longer.

They should be helped due to pandemic but going forward they should be W2 employees and the clubs should be paying in to the unemployment system.

There's pros and cons to both ways for both the employer and employee. Moving forward more will want to be W2 employees but they won't have much pull.

They won't have much pull but the state will have all the employers info as to who us paying workers by 1099. They will focus their efforts on enforcement after spending all this money on employers that didn't pay in to the system.

Does anyone think there will be any type of Summer ball?

Dude, there may not be any type of youth team sports for a year or more if there is no vaccine.

I can't decide between no and hell no.

Don't think there will be summer soccer which is the right call.

These "leaders" better figure it out by August. Europe is close to a vaccine. Why aren't we?

It is very unlikely that there will be a vaccine. How many times have been told that we are close to having an AID's vaccine over the past 3 or 4 decades?
