I love abstract philosophical thoughts, happiness is a direction not a place or a league for that matter

So those very good soccer kids in Weston (There are 2-3 per team) are going to stay and play the other GAL teams. That’s sounds real productive. Let me know how that’s working for you will the ECNL girls your daughters age will be playing competitive games and getting respectively better. Give me feedback also on the 2020/21 GAL showcases and how they turnout for your loyal kids. COllege soccer Coaches are registering for that as we speak! Lol

There really is no difference in the eyes of college coaches. They retained 85% of the teams from the GDA. Two in CA closed, and a few joined ECNL, the rest, including the #1 ranked team in the country, all stayed with the GAL. This group of teams produced more power 5 D1 college players last year, and more YNT players last year than the ECNL. Do you really think college coaches are suddenly going to ignore that pool of players?

Obviously, the coaches are not going to ignore these players. They will come out to showcases. Weston will draw nationally recognized teams in the showcases. The older players will continue to be seen and recruited. No one is buying the Prime fear propaganda.

My daughter is more concerned about the week in week out competition. Say what you want about Weston, but a couple of the teams have very strong rosters. They will most likely dominate everyone except maybe Top Hat. The problem is that in the older age groups, ECNL competition is only a slight tick better. It’s not really worth the move.

There are some BAD ECNL teams is Florida. U17 TBU, FESA, Armada, OCYS, FKK are all bad teams. So, ECNL is barely better competition if at all outside a couple Atlanta teams and Prime.

Showcase competition will be a wash.

Moving to Prime with all its unknowns is as much a gamble as GAL.

Agreed. Now, assuming the showcases are equally attended, do you want your kid playing in a showcase with 106 ECNL teams, when nearly every team in Florida is at the bottom of the barrel, or a GA Showcase with 64 Teams? If you know anything about showcases and the schedules of college coaches, you'll pick GA.

As a coach, to understand the current situation, you have to understand the history. When the GDA started, many of the top clubs left ECNL, and it looked ECNL's days were numbered. They went on a VERY aggressive expansion campaign, hoping to stay relevant with larger numbers, and they signed many clubs that were not prepared to play at that level. The GDA certainly had it's own issues, but they started to narrow the number of clubs and significantly improved the level of play across the board.

If you've been to the showcases, you know that there are many ECNL matches are really not scouted at all. There are several tiers in the ECNL, and few coaches bother to look at those toward the bottom. At the GDA, we were dealing with a smaller pool of teams, and a more consistent level of talent across all teams. We had more time at each match, and were able to evaluate more players that were high caliber. I've never seen a GDA showcase match that did not have multiple scouts watching.

The GA has the vast majority of the GDA teams, with a few strong additions. We will see if the ECNL can now narrow their focus and improve their quality, but for now, the GA will continue to get the same level of attention the GDA received.

The older Weston players who are any good (3) are committed already. Keep hope alive for the rest!

Not true! Florida teams were so bad Top Hat and others wanted to defect. They then made Weston and other clubs play home games in Jacksonville as a concession. Boca United and WFF were the worst. Weston became one of the worst when players left for Prime. Thats when JS came to save the day! LIAR!

Weston was behind only Tophat in the southeast. Not too bad. They weren’t ever going to win a DA championship but they were middle of the road DA club.

Shut up. They were behind CSA and Courage as a club, too.
