Many of these schools took a very big hit with no college basketball “march madness” that schools count on as well. The pressure is on these colleges to make sure that the fall season proceeds regardless of this pandemic.

You really think college football makes more money than basketball? You’re crazy and clueless.

Revenue does not equal profit. The costs of running football teams is enormous. It also will vary as widely as the grand canyon school to school. Profits for Duke basketball vs football? Or AB football vs their BBall team?

Schools better carefully consider the blowback if they don't reopen in the fall but allow athletes to return.

College Football (especially P5 conference) make a lot more money than college basketball. The revenue from not only network tv, cable, there own league networks is “off the charts” higher than any other sport. If you think otherwise than your the one who is clueless. More Universities rely on the cash flow from football than any other sport!

The prime example of this is Rutgers. Arguably, for a few seasons, they were the top team in the Big East football conference, when it existed. The school administrators chose to go to the Big Ten because they saw the financial windfall of playing that conference. However, they have now become a doormat in the Big Ten, but, they still make money because of the payments from the Big 10 Network and the revenue splitting that comes from teams making NCAA basketball tournament and college football bowls. From a school pride standpoint, it was not the greatest decision but from a finance standpoint, it is/was a big win.

^ none of the above applies to soccer. At best soccer teams break even, many run in the red.

This is supposed to be "voluntary" but some coaches will pressure players to come back. No doubt athletes weren't planning on returning to campus in June, and some are lucky enough to still have summer jobs and internships they'd like to keep.
