How to develop successful US soccer players?

Just a thought, but maybe less parental involvement (daddy coaches, parent managers, parents in the sidelines, parents etc). Parents should only be able to watch by invitation, and only by web cam in another location.

Less clubs per population (higher income) capital, and more training/developing.

Support recreational soccer once more, so that kids can actually play, and great players can be selected for development (not pay-to-play clubs).

Development centers (not academy, travel clubs, ODP, etc).

How about better trained and better paid referees?

I think you have a couple descent ideas but you have a bias against academies, so not sure why. We are with IMG and I can tell you your first paragraph is right on the money, at least from our perspective, and its not that they tell you that you can't watch them, but everyone knows they only need to be paying attention to their coaches, etc. They don't need mom and dad in the back ground and for the most part, we aren't. I"ve never watched a training; we hear what goes on and have seen the growth and development in our kid. Very positive.

Ever taken your car in for a regular oil change only to be told that it needs $4000.00 worth in repairs and that your car's just discovered malfunctioning happened right after you took it in and it was a coincidence? You were not in the shop to see what they did or did not do and it is your word against them. You lose.

In a perfect world I would agree with you and maybe IMG is the exception to the rule but as long as we are PAYING, WE have to keep an eye on what we are getting. Clubs do not want us around because they can then do whatever they want which includes, not having coaches at practices, not show up at games, unqualified daddy coaches, etc,. This is a Pay to Play system in which we are, for the most part, being taken for a ride.

yeah but how about kids and parents also actually understand that team training is only a portion of development--players have to be on the ball at home away from their team about as much or more than time with the team. too many parents think that dropping their kid off 3 nights a week for an hour and a half should produce a pro-quality player and then bash their coach and club when it doesn't happen. expectations need to be realistic

How can you say "less parental involvement", then "support recreational soccer" in the same argument? Makes no sense. Rec soccer is volunteer based, and parents are the volunteers.
