If a club is 501c3 are they not required to file form 990 tax returns and report income to their coaches and employees via W2s and 1099s? The club my son plays for has not filed a 990 ever and none of the coaches and employees get any income reported for tax purposes...any guidance would be appreciated....we have coaches making in excess of $6,000

Is the organization a 501c3? If they are not filing they may just be a non-profit registered with state of FL and not a 501 with IRS.

I suspect very few clubs register as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. They can still be non-profit.
Seriously if you want to fret about non-profit organizations your local soccer club ought to be pretty far down the list. How about the NFL, NCAA, every college football bowl, PGA etc, etc . . . Goodall's salary alone would probably cover the pay of every club coach in Florida.

Or, they're lazy, and they'll eventually be forced to pay hefty penalties. The clubs you have to worry about are the ones you can't find records on. they talk big, but for all you know, the money goes into the owners pocket. even the coaches might not know the reality.

Your club meets those guidelines. Contact the IRS.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostYou also need to differentiate between a coach being paid directly by the TEAM vs being paid by the club and there is a difference. Some clubs use the model that you pay one fee to the club and then based on level of the team a coach is assigned and the team is responsible to pay the coach directly. Club is not involved in paying teh coach so won't be reflected in clubs filings.

I just hope we can get these coaches at this club paying their taxes so that we can reduce the national debt to a reasonable level.
