    11 v. 11 formations

Curious what formation your teams played in the younger ages of 11 v. 11. 4-4-2, 4-3-3, something else?

*sigh* Same old 4-4-2. Switched to a 4-5-1 for one game against a much better team and got a result out of it.

    No inventiveness.

3-1-4-2. Need very fast outside mids with depth

        Formations matter until opening kick-off...

At younger ages in travel soccer and a lot of 2nd rate club soccer I agree that it doesn't matter after kickoff.

We played a 2-2-1-2-3. I had spend time walking up and down our sidelines educating the other parents how sophisticated we were compared to the other teams 4-3-3. Our outside backs were a good 12-18 inches ahead of the center defenders at kickoff, andf our center mid was a good 2 feet behind the other mids at kickoff. Luckily our coaching staff spent hours at practice working on the positioning vs. actual training.

At U13 when kids move to the big field they should dedicate weeks of practice to different permutations of the 4-3-3

What do you consider younger ages?
