GU13 Weekend Preview (10/8-10/9) - "Cranky Columbus Day Version"
Its Columbus Day Weekend, which means no league games at all on the schedule for our List teams. This also means that not a lot for the 04 List to muse about this weekend, other than some tournament games which may or may not affect the list too much unless there are some wacky, unexpected results. It's really hard to get into these Columbus Day tournaments at all anyway. Usually any club tournament trying to reign on the parade of what is traditionally a Travel Team weekend, is really just trying to gratify themselves. It usually ends up being a bunch of its own teams playing each other every game, with the random outside team thrown in there like the proverbial third wheel on a date. The big shocker is that GPS doesn't host one (Soccerween in NY not withstanding).
Sigh, but we do have some games on the docket to be played, so lets review them as quickly as possible...
SSS AP - CFC COLUMBUS DAY CLASSIC
SSS is the third wheel in CFC's tournament this weekend. And, although they are in the top bracket, Saturday has them playing two games against CFC lesser teams. And by lesser, I mean not their Pre-ECNL team. I can barely keep up with the team structure of our MA clubs, let alone CFC's teams. NO clue if CFC Real and North Sky are B or F teams, but since they put them in the top bracket of their own tourney, I'm guessing they are probably strong regional teams for that club. Regardless, SSS should be favored to win those games easily. Then SSS gets a rematch with Oakwood on Sunday, but I'm guessing they won't be able to play their phenom since their U14 team is also at the tournament (no dual rostering people!!!). This could be one of the more interesting games all weekend, and the defacto "GOAT". We are going to see how SSS does against a team they already beat 4-2 just a few weeks ago, but this time, without their "help". In the end, I still fully expect a SSS vs CFC Pre-ECNL match-up in the finals. That could be another good match-up, and if SSS wins that, then they could get a bump up the list this week. If they fail to make finals however, The 04 List will also make note (cue dramatic music).
FC Boston Pre-ECNL - FC BOSTON COLUMBUS CUP
FCB takes on all its lower teams in what will basically be their version of an inter-club scrimmage tournament. They play their NPL, Metro West, and North 0teams, with Valeo playing the role of the third wheel in the last game of the weekend. This should be 4 wins for FCB, but if somehow FCB loses these, it could spell some List movement down for sure. As Roz says, "I'm watching ... always watching."
FC Stars, NEFC/Breakers, GPS - All off this weekend. I realize there might be scrimmages, and or intra-club events going on, yada yada, but The 04 List does not care. The 04 List is really just a heartless SOB ... and very cranky today. Happy Columbus Day (or Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day if you're one of those annoying PC'er folk).
Results, however few of them there may be, (might) move the List.
