NESCAC schools are very generous with financial aid but have zero academic/merit money. The next level down (ie Union, Skidmore) can offer merit money of up to 20k plus financial aid. Those are great scenarios.

The problem is for the people above you. 300k annual income. Good living but 72k a year for school with multiple kids in college, makes no sense.

Glad it’s the right choice for but realize that everyone is different.
You suggestion is incorrect, we get no financial aid whatsover. She is a pretty good soccer player and a great student. All of her money is merit or institutional money. Seems to me that they gave her a super package. I have no doubt that soccer helped a lot.

^^^^ Exactly right .... we make more than $200k but not enough to pay $70k for college per year even thought the govt thinks we can. We have super credit and the govt and banks are plenty happy to let us borrow whatever we want. It's pretty ridiculous. I think we should let more illegals in and pay everything for them including education, housing, food, and then college.

The 60% is realistic but zero came in the form of athletic money. 20k or so is likely merit money and the balance is demonstrated financial need

Most coaches can give a “pre read” estimate on mertit money and the financial aid portion can be calculated on school websites.
She has a friend from her high school coming in this year that is also a great student but does not play a sport. Her package was substantially less. I don't care what you say, D3 coaches have a fair amount of non-athletic, merit money to help hem recruit some players they want.

Coaches don't decide merit money, the school does. Some coaches may be able to pull more strings with admissions than others, but ultimately whatever merit money or grants a student gets is out of their hands. You're also only comparing two kids, both with different applications, experiences, essays, etc, at one school. That does not make a valid data set. Most D3s give some merit money to good students because they have to. They can't afford to compete against lower priced state schools, so often times they try to match what you'd pay for your top flagship school in state.

You are painting D3 with an incredibly broad brush.

Schools like Middlebury, Chicago and Trinity have ZERO merit money. They have significant endowments and have formulaic approach to financial aid. Not up for debate.

The next level down seems to have much more merit and institutional scholarships to attract better students. Gettysburg, Muhlenburg and so on.

Good schools and can be a great deal.

Actually more like a typical year over the past several (if not slightly above average). Let's not make CFC out to be a national, perennial power house here. Their teams are, more often than not, mediocre or worse on average than everyone else (and usually just a smidge above FSA).

The top field looks great. Bottom field will be a month away.

                            Looks better than Beachside field
