ECNL and US Club view their competition with US Soccer and the GDA as warfare. That's the reason for the scorched-earth campaign, trying to sabotage US Soccer at every turn. That's the reason why the keyboard warriors are working overtime in this forum and many others, spreading lies and FUD and propaganda, ANYTHING to dissuade girls from considering Thorns Academy or other GDA programs.
It's youth soccer, folks. Let a hundred flowers bloom.
If ECNL's business model depends on it being the exclusive conduit for elite girl players, and it really views GDA as an existential threat that must be vanquished, then that right there speaks volumes.
GDA, for the most part, doesn't object to the existence of ECNL. But US Soccer certainly does object to ECNL attempting to corner the market.
Which is the best reason for GDA--warts and all--to continue: so girls will have a choice, and not be strong-armed into spending ridiculous sums of money to travel to cattle calls in order to be "noticed".

Seriously Bro you are kinda dumb. The Thorns are a baseball team in PDX away from being forgotten. D1 Soccer will be and should be the top of the pyramid for women’s soccer. Wish it was different but it is not.
Now, there remains the risk of the NWSL folding--but the league is averaging over 6k fans per game, far more than D1 soccer gets (even the blue-chip programs have a hard time clearing that level). Many lower-division's mens leagues around the world have similar attendance figures--NWSL sells about the same number of seats as EFL League One (England's third division).
Just another sign of how desperate and twisted the ECNL honks are--many of them seem to be openly cheering for the US domestic women's pro league to fail, so women's soccer will once again be a shamateur sport for the country club set.

That is unnecessarily ugly. Thorns games, albeit slower pace of play than the men, generally involve my daughter getting to see some of the best female soccer players in the world -- Jodie Taylor was awesome last weekend, Sinclair remains a master passer and playmaker, Horan has come a long way with her technical skill, and the addition of Andressinha is really exciting. And why complain that tickets are affordable? That's a good thing. MLS/USMNT does not draw the same world-wide talent and sometimes looks more like wrestlemania than soccer. The men's game in the US all about pace and physicality (which is somewhat true for the USWNT, for that matter. Players like Heath excepted). Just be nice and celebrate that our kids get to play and watch soccer. It's better than Fortnite.
