Perhaps the most comically ironic sentence I've read here.

I was about to post the same thing. It's one of those sentences that you read, then reread, then try to guess at what the poster was trying to say and then finally just give up and ignore the whole thing. The poster also went on to give soccer props to Oregon, Oregon State and Gonzaga. OSU was the last team to make it to the tournament and that was five/six years ago.

"Perhaps the most comically ironic sentence I've read"

The OP seems to be attempting to prove that they attended an OR college. The opposite way to write the sentence, and which I believe better indicates the original intent, would be:

"Well educated parents realize that Oregon colleges have low academic standards."

A lot of things in Oregon, especially in youth sports, are the opposite of the way they should be.

This is a soccer forum for soccer crazy parents so if they want to believe little Suzie is an academic and soccer star to go to Southern Oregon and such, then let them enjoy. Parents delusions hurt no one else. Biggest soccer congratulations to Oregon’s soccer elite for commits to ND, Cal, Georgetown, OSU, UO, AZ, UP, UTAH and Gonzaga. Biggest academic congratulations to the players going to ND, Georgetown, CAL, Swarthmore, Pitzer & the like. Congratulations too to all the other Oregon girls going to any college, even CC and following their dreams to play soccer in college.
Part of the formula is getting into college, the rest of the formula is making the most of it once you get there.

Play college athletics, pick the right major, and do well in your classes... you will get a job.

There are plenty of kids who graduate from Cal, Pitzer, etc.. without a clue or a job.

True but I’d bet there are more without a clue or a job from SOU, Pacific, Concordia, GF, Colby, etc. It took a lot more intelligence, hard work and “clue” to get into competitive schools like Cal, Swarthmore, Georgetown, Pitzer, etc. IMHO, success depends most upon the individual player soccer & academic-wise. I applaud any college & have no desire to compare them. However the argument on TS is all about bashing GDA or ECNL or OYSA. When comparing soccer leagues, succes is largely measured by level & number of college commits. It is in that context that the commits to lower level schools don’t earn as many Brownie points. No claim was made that a student anywhere can’t succeed. Same goes for soccer level when comparing colleges. CAL has generally higher level of players than most of the others. CAL has a USWNT star alum in Alex Morgan. This doesn’t necessarily mean that a Pacific or Concordia player won’t ever be called to the National team, but, realistically, I’d put my more money on PAC12 players. Some seem to have no clue that most of our Oregon colleges are rank rather low in soccer & academics.

Yeah, Cal, that fine institution that loves free speech, so long as the speech is something that they agree with. If not, then rioting occurs to keep speakers away that may profess views that are opposite of those that the students hold.

Um yeah we're talking about athletes who are Engineering majors who graduate and go on to Facebook, Google etc... Check out the 2 kids from Jesuit going to Cal - kind of above your level.

Just because you're doing well with the PCC Cert doesn't mean everyone has to take that route (Crusader power slamma jamma on ur pink head)!

I realize the other parents are delusional but be nice. Students going to CAL are academically leagues above local schools with admission rates over 80%. Pac12 soccer is also soccer leagues above those schools like SOU, George Fox & Concordia. That is obvious but there is no reason to rub anyone’s nose in it. Gda & OYSA teams also have girls going Pac12 and to good academic schools. All three leagues also have girls going to the lower schools and they & their parents should still be proud. It is still more than most other girls in Oregon. Not every girl is a soccer star or an academic star, and the rare few are both. Congratulations and good luck to all the Oregon girls going to college at any level and bonus congratulations if they are playing soccer
