But some options cost the parents more than others. It's when your kid isn't a good enough soccer player to earn that scholarship, that's when the net costs sky rocket and you have to question whether or not that option makes much sense.

If you take a realistic look at the odds, it is foolish to go into it for the main purpose of obtaining a college scholarship. How many players are getting 50% or more D1 scholarships? Not very many.

Heard #19 on Needham is a monster of Pugg nets

Case in point is him mocking kids at U12 being identified as potential D1 prospects. The reality is these days where clubs are starting their programming in the 2nd-3rd grade that is actually on the late side to be answering the potential question. Be prepared for a bunch of his baseless "facts" that he constantly uses to convince parents that are struggling with the whole recruiting thing that they can shoot higher than is realistically warranted and that they have more time than they factually do. He wants people to fail at the recruiting game and join with him in celebrating education over soccer because he believes that most club soccer parents are in it just to support their kids and have absolutely no interest in college scholarships. In his weird world the costs of both club soccer and college tuition are trivial. His views are beyond ill informed and his constant barrages espousing them make him a huge menace.
Lol, BTNT. First post in more than 3 months. I was curious if you are just as immature as ever, and here you are starting ridiculous threads and then attacking shadows with arguments that only exist in your very distorted head. You are truly pathetic. Condolences to your traumatized family.

Not to mention that your narrative, as always, is 100% false. I was always for striving higher. But let's see you hate on D3 a little more. Why can't you support MCLA???

What part of that post do you believe is incorrect? Most of it is pretty straight forward and factual based upon our experience.

The only sentence that might be true is sentence #3. Every other sentence in your rant is 100% off base. Have a great day, BTNT. What a big fat goober you are. Eat another pizza.

Not understanding the recruiting time line is probably the biggest reason families come away frustrated with the whole recruiting process. Have to know what level of player you have and when a college coach at that level is likely to be looking for players. If you start too early or too late you run the risk of missing your window of opportunity.

If you haven't figured out by 12 whether or not your kid is a potential college prospect, never mind a D1 prospect you are in for some heartache

I'd argue you're describing the point in time when the window is open for that discovery, but it begins to close and close quickly. Very much like a game of musical chairs where the time you take and the ability of the player will work for you or against you.

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've read on TS. Yes, if your child is very unathletic at 12, they are unlikely to change. But to say you should know that your child will be a top college prospect at 12 . . . . I have seen WAY too many 11 and 12 year old stars fade within a couple of years. Seriously, skilled impact players that either can't/won't keep up with their cohort.

There are many paths to the "top". A top coach once told me that he could pick out the kids that would be successful college soccer players. He said it wasn't the ones with the most talent, it was the ones with the most drive.

You need both things, talent and drive, and at age 12 there are still too many variables to really say what the future holds. As a general rule!
