The 05's can simply play on year outside of the DA program. This scenario gives the best of the 05's a chance to be challenged at a higher level. However, unless they're good enough to be in the top half of the DA team, they'd probably be better served developing with their 05 group outside of the DA.

Above post is 100% on the money. If your son is way above Premiere level average and is on the older end .. i.e. First quarter birthdate in 05 year.. DA might be worth it if the rest of the team makeup are high level 04s. Otherwise the entire higher level 05 player pool will be better served in OYSA and at a club that can provide them with solid and thoughtful out of state championship competition and a full roster of like minded and higher skilled peers.

ADF will be doing Surf Cup and likely SuperCopa in addition to Crossfire Challenge. There's a good argument that this is too much too early, but at least the option is out there for players and families.

As for tournaments the competition can be fantastic and atmosphere really thrilling for the players. ADF doesn't waste time and money when the kids are ready on meaningless competitions like Mt Hood Challenge or Beaverton Cup. Look at the Supercopa tournament coming up in June and you will see the ADF 04s playing in the DA Bracket.

The 04s are a terrific team. I believe they won FWRL and will be playing in Regionals which was surely better competition than playing 9v9 watered down 04/05 blended teams.

That doesn't take away from what he has built . . . just be careful assuming clubs want his model (it is kind of a hot mess honestly).

If your real motivation is the development of your child, then programs like the DA are what you should be looking for. More training, and fewer games. There's certainly no reason to be looking to travel as far as possible for competition or trophies when there is plenty opportunity in our own back yard at this age. The kids are actively scouted at their DA games. The best of the best are invited to participate in the USSDA training centers to compete with the other top kids in the area. The winter futsal showcase last weekend was a great time. All in all, it's a great program that my son has thoroughly enjoyed.

Why are the DA boys struggling so much in conference? Both teams are in the lower half of standings, being the only MLS Academy to be in such a position in both age groups. Maybe it's time the Timbers organization takes this program more seriously, and invests more into the academy.
