What about ground transportation (team vans & Gas) + parking costs at these events?

Your also forgot about the coaches per diem, own rental car, hotel room, parking & meals. Not to mention luggage fees for players, these things add up at CU & FC with 7-10 trips a year. Thorns DA picks up all of these costs and doesn't pass it on to families.

HS Costs around $300 to $350 depending on the school, so if you are selected for DA you get an additional savings. Great point.

Thornz gives you exactly what you pay for. A cut rate, low value soccer experience. Slightly better than rec but not much.

You obviously were not in Florida to see the number of college coaches (yes D1 coaches) on the sidelines of the Thorns Academy games. GDA is about playing college soccer and other opportunities as well.

High school soccer is a place for fun, community, injury and poor quality soccer. To each their own but high school soccer isn’t for every player. Most grow bored by sophomore year.

A parent can pay either $2650 or $9300 a year and in the end the kids will end up in the same place.

Now you have to ask yourself if this was true, why would the Thorns leave so much on the table if parents are willing to pay as much as 10K?

What if both programs charged the same, where would the kids go?
What happens when the Thorns dont subsidize their program next year?

In the past three years ECNL has gotten 60+ girls into college. Thorns have gotten a couple.

You forgot to add that Crossfire has to pay exorbitant shipping costs for their uniforms. Don’t you find it a little coincidental that you also have a min purchase? Why are THUSC player’s subsidizing the game uniforms for CU?

Kids go to different programs for various reasons. Here’s just a few that came to the top of my head.
                          1. Practice location
                          2. Coach
                          3. Comfort level
                          4. Play time- know where they fall and know they will play or not play.
                          5. Cost
                          6. Play with friends
                          7. Exposure and opportunity
                          8. Competition
                          9. Training and Development
                          10. Quality of the team

You pose an interesting question, but it’s clear to me that cost is not what drives the decision. It’s merely a piece of the puzzle and for some that piece is bigger. I think that subsidizing the GDA is a move in the right direction. Eliminating barriers can only propel the sport forward.

But Thorns is about $2k cheaper per year.

No, more like $200 cheaper per year.
