Positive Tampa Bay Area Girls Soccer Future

With all the negative posts about Tampa bay area girls soccer, its time to figure out whats good and how to fix it.

We have great facilities here. We have great coaches. We have able parents and a abundance of players. We need to fix the disconnect between this and the development of players.

Is it greed or arrogance that has stopped the natural aggregation of the best players because a true professional coach should always strive to have the players play with the best players. Yet that does not seem to be the case in this area.

Soccer clubs will always make money. Always! There is no shortage of players in the pipeline and its just going to get bigger with world cup coming and the demise of club and high school football.

But something has to be done so this area can compete with other cities and get some exposure. Except for a few standout players the Tampa area has zero credibility with the colleges for developing players.

Lets post some positive ideas because constantly losing can build character but honestly how is that helping these girls future?!

They need to focus on pure develoment at young ages, not winning. It's not about scoring goals when you are young, its it's about learning the game, how to see field, how to pass and play as a team, how to roll the ball out of the back and defend and pass, not boot it down the field and developing first touch. Realizing an assistbis as good as a goal, not just getting the ball and putting uour head down and takingbon four playerscorvturning over tonthevothervteam, or just jacking it out the back? It can be painful but it works for creating strong, solid players that.can dominate and play anywhere

Spot on, but the ego's that run the clubs in FL will never do this. Also, American parents do not understand this philosophy. They all shop gotsoccer for the highest ranking team in their area and use that as their criteria for bringing their kids. Either that or insist that their professionally bound player must play ECNL or DA or they will never get a chance to play at higher levels. This is all hogwash.

Not sure what the answer is, but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and getting the same result, so there you have it.

Clean house at every club? Develop a process that a coach can't step on a field until they understand and have shown the ability to implement the correct philosophy? Have a better process for removing coaches that screw up? Stop the trophy hunting at the younger ages? Why even have team rankings until the kids hit age 16? The rankings are useless (especially in Florida). Do tons of parent education? Who knows!

"Except for a few standout players the Tampa area has zero credibility with the colleges for developing players." This is simply not true. Or more specifically, this is highly dependent on the club you're at. At our club, top colleges call our club coaches on a regular basis seeking a "2020 CB" or a "2019 GK" in addition to calling and asking about certain girls that they have seen or heard about. The reason they call is that there are already a bunch of alumni players out there on rosters. I would call that credibility.

It's exacerbated by there being too many clubs and not enough paying customers or players with talent. So, to get customers in the door you need the wins. To Americans wins=development=good coaching. Many parents never played the game themselves and don't know good soccer coaching from bad. Until families start demanding better from the clubs, nothing will change. The clubs will happily keep cashing checks

With all the constructive posts we have then there is this exaggeration. Top colleges are not calling for specific positions. Obviously at showcases conversations are centered around what they need and maybe what the club has but top colleges coaches definitely don't look to the Tampa area for quality players yet!

Name one recent recruit or commit playing for a top ranked soccer school?

Agreed, you only have to look as far as Fowler Avenue to find several Tampa area players on USF's team ranked at #19

Sorry Mom or Dad, but "top colleges are not calling for specific positions." may be true at your club but this is exactly how my daughter was recruited. College coach called the Club's DOC with some "positions of need in certain birth years." DOC talked to club coaches, offered up the names of a few girls (after talking to the family about their interest in that college), then the College coach came to watch at Showcase(s). Then the conversations started....

                          FGCU is a joke academically.
Where do you think everyone on the Gulf coast of Florida goes if they are turned down everywhere else. Just like FAU is the East coast joke school.
