Anytime I read posts by people who write in a patronizing way as if they think they know better or understand the issue better really shows ow short sighted they are not listening t what others have to say. Most understand the implications of this pandemic on colleges financially but have no insight at all at this present time how it will effect student-athletes going forward. For the class of 2021 nothing has changed colleges still did their re ruining and offers went out to these recruits just like any other year. Most of the class that my daughter has played with from different clubs all have been committed with no difference in scholarship money. That being said you need to learn about how scholarships work. For IVY’s it’s about grades and financial aid as well as grants/merit scholarships. For D3 they are the same, no athletic scholarships but financial aid as well as grants/merit scholarships. For D1 programs this is more subjective; for State schools like Rutgers they take a good amount of instate students that will get money from the State and not have to come out the allotment of athletic scholarship money given to the soccer program hence why so many NJ PDA players are at Rutgers. As far as D1 private colleges/universities each school has their own specific budget of how many full scholarships dollars are allotted to the program. It’s then decided by the coach to decide how they spend that money collectively. For a program of 28 players very few players receive full scholarships but rather a combination of athletic scholarship/financial aid/merit scholarships.
This pandemic has only changed the timing of this recruitment process and not recruitment as a whole. The 2021 has never stopped and the staffs at these colleges are now looking at the 2022’s.

Why does Rutgers have such a strong pipeline from PDA?

Because the most competitive players and talented NJ players want to play in the most competitive league (ECNL) and play in a P5 conference Big Ten. And your point is?

Those sports draw in fans no matter how good the team is and with that money from alumni and prospective students.
Basketball isn't the issue, football is, but when they cut men's golf, swimming etc that cuts the number of women's scholarships they have to give. Depending on the their conferences they also may consider cutting some, certainly not all, football scholarships. They're capped at 85 but not all schools use the cap. Some aren't very competitive and won't see much of any TV money ever, which is what makes a program run in the black. I think D2 schools, which tend to have weaker finances than the large D1s will be cutting a lot of teams and scholarships.

and many student athletes want to stay within a half day's drive from home.

Correct lots of PDA players spread out across the B1G landscape. Rutgers gets some but majority go to other B1G schools I believe, check the recruiting classes.

There is no doubt that PDA players playing ECNL get more looks because of the league they play in and the reputation the club has in the college soccer community. The closest club with the same credentials and level of success is Penn Fusion. There is no doubt the success of both PDA & Penn Fusion is because of the competitiveness of the league. If you doubt that then look at what has happened to Tophat & FC Virginia. Both excellent clubs with the same structure of well respected coaches and trainers have taken substantial hits with their best players leaving because they are no longer affiliated with ECNL.

That is a rather odd question since everyone knows the NCAA violator recruits from his own club to the detriment of Rutgers Womens success.

Only a fool would think athletic scholarships won’t be impacted. Hard for colleges to justify continuing to give out athletic money when college sports seasons are being abbreviated or outright canceled.

As the OP said it’s going to be a reset with youth soccer retuning to a more localized and regionalized competition structure. You will see...
Everyone treating sports scholarships like they are the first line to toss. So much more goes into school financials then the pentane of money given to women's sports scholarships. It would be like picking up a penny a day because you can't pay your mortgage. Sure every penny counts but it isn't going to solve the financial problem. One reason why I cringe when schools first line of cutting are layoffs while they continue to re-turf the football field for the 3rd time in 5yrs.

A lot of these scholarships actually add to the budget instead of subtract. When a player gets 1/3rd of a ride, especially from out of state, they are still collecting 2/3rds of tuition. And no one can say that it costs less to teach an instate student vs an out of state student when they still have to pony up for room and board.

If the football program brings in 85% of the revenue to the entire sports program, contributes to the financial aid program as well as to salaries of professors than that program can justify any expenditures that promotes that sport and continues to bring in that amount of revenue. I have no problem with that nor does the college. Most of these football college coaches are worth every dollar they are paid because of how much money they bring to the college. That’s the way it works in college.

Lovie Smith has a 5-34 record in 5yrs at Illinois and collects a $4m paycheck.....Doubt that is worth it.

Not all football programs are profitable or are barely so. Don't' equate Notre Dame with Toledo.
