Coaches register even for live stream so players/coaches know their intentions. College coaches not even interested in watching GAL from the comfort of their own home is an issue for the league.

This is not in defense of GAL, but D1 college coaches have no interest in registering if they cannot go in person. The players that are interested will send those coaches their game videos. College coaches are not going to watch random games on a screen in the hope of finding a player.

Unfortunately you are incorrect. Most platforms will ask for college coaches to register so the clubs in attendance can reach out and they can send them rosters and player details.

If I saw 40 schools in attendance for a national showcase, I’d ask for a plane refund

While I'd like to see more coaches signed up, also have to realize:

* First Showcase, and no teams from the Northeast were interested in going just yet as travelling to these is, at this point, frankly, irresponsible
* Comparing it to ECNL will (likely) always be 2nd best. Not sure this is news to anyone.


People are way to quick to jump at the first news and start poking. Shows the obsession/nervousness for some reason still permeates throughout these threads.

If it WERE a National showcase with all clubs in attendance, you would be correct.

No. One team from one club in the Northeast is going; the rest declined. Ultimately, when polled, too many parents/families decided to heed the advise of "experts" and decline the non-essential travel. Personally, we said we would go, but not sure how many from our club/team agreed with that.

We need to remember this league is about 10 months old, and started during the absolute worst time to kick something like this off.

Florida, in April, is mandatory and many more will be there. I don't expect it to be at an ECNL level, nor should anyone expect that.

Florida in April is going to awkkkwwwardd for those GA clubs that were able to get a life line from ECNL and are one and done in GA.

NCAA prohibits D1 coaches from attending any showcases until at least April 15 (no updates for after that yet). There will only be D2 and D3 coaches at showcases before that date.

Re-read the ECNL coaches list from Sanford. There were lots of D1 programs that committed to watching the live streams. Why aren't they signing up to do that for the GA showcase?

Maybe not fatal to the long term future of GA, but we should keep in mind:

1) relatively new league - they should learn and get better at this in future events
2) there may be some late additions - even another 20 schools would help
3) lots of things are in flux, so it might be a very different situation post-Covid for this event
4) many programs are about to start Spring season and various restrictions or management challenges may be forcing an event like this way down the list of priorities for college staffs

For families in the prime recruiting years RIGHT NOW, they may need to completely rethink how they will get their player some exposure - because this event will not do much for them.

I think its obvious. Coaches spent their limited budget on the known quantity of ECNL. If this is a trend then GA is just NPL
