    History records

that girls who play club soccer in Oregon up to and through u18 have gotten many offers to attend NAIA, Junior College, DIII and even a few few get DII and a rare few get DI scholarship (athletic based).

With so many colleges fielding women's soccer teams and Title IX legislation mandating girls get the same in-kind financial aid as boys for athletics, Oregon HS and club girls have plenty of offers to choose from the different levels of college programs.

American Football in colleges has created the reality of scholarships for girls across college soccer. Mens American College Football offers over 80+ scholarships that must be matched dollar for dollar in girls sports, girls don't play american football so girls college programs in activities like soccer, crew & gymnastics reap the benefit of title IX. That's why girls have more programs and scholarships than the men's side of college soccer. Which on the surface is unfair to the men's college soccer player, but I guess the trade off is men can make a living as a professional player where women can't in america.

Will Oregon girls playing in a different club leagues than the OYSA, WCDA, FWRL, NWCL, OPL result in more girls getting scholarships from Oregon? Doubt it.

Over time we will all find out.

Until then enjoy the democratic nation.

It's not the vehicle that your in.
It comes down to how persistent your DD is and how good their grades are...if your DD is in the top 1% then there are different rules to play by.

Keep in mind more than 85% of kids play within 150 from their home. There is no need for exotic leagues or teams.

Are you saying joining the ECNL is pointless if your aim is to have a better chance at scholarships? Why did we join?

No, I think they are trying to say that joining Thorns Academy is pointless if you want to learn how to play soccer.

Keep in mind that there are only 30-40 girls announcing they are playing in college out of the thousands that play H.S. here in Oregon. Those 85% playing within 150 miles of their home are not them. No coach is going to check out the NEU vs. RVT match or the Mollala H.S. game to watch little suzie. Check the clubs websites for college announcements. Check the top drawer site.

Good question. The best guess is this was a way to create a venture by which parents THINK that spending thousands will get them something more than what they would get regardless. It's like buying an expensive SUV only to never use the traction capabilities you paid so much for. Complete stupidity by 70% of the parents in ECNL, but it feels good to them.

I think it is obvious that your kid needs to stay away from ECNL.

30-40? Hardly. And thousands of dollars to ECNL to get the offer that one would get by playing locally. But hey, it's about exposure. Oh yeah, play in front of colleges that the girls would never want to play for, in parts of the country they don't want to live, in front of colleges who have no interest, ..... really smart.

That number is almost right on. 27 signed from the two ECNL teams and 5 from other clubs from around the state. And that is only from media reports, D111 and NAIA are still recruiting players and the number for Oregon should go up a bit in the next few months.

So let me get this straight. Of the 32 signed D1 players from our State this year 27 come from the 2 ECNL Clubs? Could that be possible cause I was told this ECNL thingy is a waste of time.

Many more kids will get signed D2 and NAIA but that D1 percentage in favor of ECNL is crazy... Of the 5 others how many came from areas outside of the Portland Metro ie... Bend, Eugene, Southern Oregon?

I never posted that all went D1. 32 right now are signed for all divisions.

It is if your dd is mediocre, which so many are. It's a complete waste of time. But it subsidizes the good players costs, so that is helpful to them. On behalf of them and their parents, we say "thank you."
