At the end of the day GPS, NEFC and SURF will all be the same. Three clubs stealing coaches and teams, suing each other, not treating parents or coaches well.

RI will be watered down in terms of soccer. Parents who don’t want to drive will go to Bayside and Liverpool.

Parents who don’t mind driving will head to Taunton or way up into Lancaster.

What SURF, NEFC, and GPS did too each other only weakened our state. Shame on them.

That makes no sense. Two competing clubs in the state combine into one club, each of which was probably considered a backwater club by the parent HQ in Massachusetts, and that somehow waters down the talent? Sounds like it consolidates some of the talent. It removes some choice though. Trade-offs.

Yea hmmm I don’t see it that way. I see the two clubs caused so much unrest that parents are not trusting them. So they will likely head elsewhere where they feel trust. Not fear of the clubs being in litigation with one another. So parents who stick local will go to Bayside or Liverpool and the parents who want more and don’t mind driving will run to Scorpions. NEFC, SURF, GPS will all lose trust and respect from the entire soccer world especially in RI. Mass is laughing at this. Thank you SURF for messing up a good thing.

Basic math: GPS + NEFC SE = Surf, one less club in RI, except... now RI has Juventus starting up an RI region. So net no change in number of clubs.

Additionally, now all the clubs in RI are spread among EDP, NEP/NPL, and whatever other leagues seem to pop up, so more diluted and spread out competition. At least before, GPS , Bayside, NEFC all played against each other in the same league. Now you’ll be driving past each other to play teams all over MA and CT.

              “ GPS + NEFC SE = Surf”

Yes that’s the problem in your thinking. You think GPS and NEFC make a new club SURF to be a power house., but they don’t. They aren’t the best players of RI, so yes you have a bigger club called SURF or the mediocre players. The best NEFC players are not joining SURF. The best players in RI are not playing even in RI. SURF has caused GPS and NEFC to no longer compete against teams like Bayside, who are better! SURF should be in DPL to compete but it’s all a mess. Thanks again SURF for ruing RI soccer.

Could be, I don't know anything about what GPS families are doing. But from that NEFC temper tantrum email, it sounds like their former coaches are getting a lot of players to follow. I only know the teams I'm connected to, of course. One of those made a group decision to all go to Surf; the other team was making decisions individually, so we'll see who shows up at the first practice.

Doubt, "A" players will go to surf and play in a subpar league. Maybe the littles. But anyone U11 and above.....no way. The players may know the difference but the parents do. These parents are paying and expecting high end product. The league is very important to them and is another status symbol. Edp would be like driving up in a ford escort.

Keep on drinking the Surf Kool-aid. I’m routing for Bayside.

Oh my! Just learned on Facebook two of our town players are joining surf. These are U12 and U14 players with no formal training, like one year of booting. No way we are joining with these flowerpickers. Surf must be having trouble.

They will be taking every player they can. It’s and numbers game. $$$$$$$
GPS was just the same and surf will follow the same model.

So, have we figured out if anyone is staying at NEFC SE or if they will even exist in the fall?

I’ve heard mixed messages. Seems some teams are mostly going to surf, others seem split. I think what ends up happening is that NEFC SE will struggle to field single age group teams and will field mixed age teams as a stop gap. I think those families that go to surf will be somewhat dissapointed in the competition amd the lack of talent for players that get recruited for $ and not ability. Surf is paying coaches a premium and needs the revenue...
