Spain La Liga sends young players to US colleges

    https://usa.laliga.es/en/news/laliga...soccer-players

Is this to promote diversity on US college campus? Are they doing the same in Portugal, Nederlands, Germany,...? Smart kids anyway who put academics before soccer.

Enroll in the nearest DA today to compete for a college walk on spot.

Of course they can, using full ride $$ all over the place. Otherwise they wouldn't be here. FSU women has a pile of them, as do many other schools. Youth NT players from countries around world. None pay a dime. Coaches find best players to WIN, that is all.

Take some time and look the the rosters of schools, many are mostly all from other countries, especially in FL. The school my son wants to go to (not to play soccer) has only 1 on the roster from the US

Foreign students don’t receive scholarships. Spanish “Santander Bank” will finance the Spanish players scholarships according to the posted article.

The only thing they cannot get is Federal loans or grants. All the rest available and is up to the school to determine - athletic $, merit$, school grants etc.

Of course they're getting full or nearly full rides. The cost of college is virtually nothing abroad. Most can't or won't pay $60,000 a year when they can go for free back home. For players hoping to get a shot at MLS it gives them a chance to be seen here as well.

And of course coaches want them - while they may be rejects from pro academies abroad most are still more skilled than US players. Coaches want players that will help them win regardless of where they come from.

That may be the case with these players, but believe me foreign players get scholarships. See prior post.

It varies a lot - some have a handful, others much more. It's not as big with women's soccer but is growing fast.

And look who is dominant on the international stage... the women... and until recently mostly looked within the states for its college recruits. Instead the men’s coaches are giving scholarships to the international players that come for the free college and if any good play for their own countries in the end. I hope the women coaches go a different path than the men because clearly it’s not working on the men’s side.

US will not dominate women’s soccer in the future. US U20 didn’t advance the group stage in the last U20 women World Cup.
