The Fusion, desperate to generate offense and fill the seats at Lockhart Stadium, might get both its wishes at the same time. Roger Thomas, a former player at Florida International University and native of Kingston, Jamaica, is taking part in negotiations with Major League Soccer that could bring him to the Fusion. Todd Durbin, director of MLS player personnel, confirmed on Tuesday that the league has spoken with Thomas and that discussions have been positive. Durbin added that the league is close to finalizing a contract.

Thomas, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound forward, is an offensive threat who could add some fire to a Fusion attack that has scored a league-low 11 goals in 13 games.
The signing of Thomas could bring a part of the large contingent of Jamaican soccer fans in South Florida to Lockhart Stadium. Since 20,450 fans filled Lockhart in the opener against D.C. United, Fusion attendance has fallen. "[Thomas) is a quality player," FIU coach Karl Kremser said. "He will be a good fit for the Fusion."

The addition of Thomas would mean the Fusion would need to trade or release a player from the 20-man roster. If the Fusion gets visa clearance for Paulinho McLaren, who is expected to join the team soon, the team would need to release a second player.
The addition of two forwards would indicate that coach Carlos Cordoba might be reconsidering his one-forward alignment.
Thomas has been practicing with the Fusion and has been impressive.
Thomas played two seasons at FIU, in which he scored 23 goals and had 16 assists in 38 games. In 1994, Thomas was named to the All-TransAmerican Athletic Conference first team after scoring 13 goals and nine assists.
In summer 1995, Thomas trained with the Jamaican national team in its quest for Olympic qualification.
Thomas recently tried out with several teams in Chile.
I am sure if he was any good, he would have made at least one of those teams in Childe and he could have added that to his resume. The real issue here is the underqualified coaches they have across the board and poor organization in the club. That is why the better girls leave the club.

He is still the best trainer in South Florida. He is an "A" licensed coach. How many other coaches have an A license and have developed kids? He doesn't need to take credit for others.

Why has he bounced around more than a soccer ball in South Florida. There are plenty of A licensed coaches like Tony Stevens for example who have made more of an impact that RT has ever done.

Roger has been in the same place for over 10 years. He has run a very successful training program and has been the DOC of Parkland Soccer for the last 3 years.

Tony Stevens is the very best. Nobody compares to him or the number of players he has developed.

Tony Stevens is horrible. Only parents with no clue about soccer think that he is worth anything.

Thanks for your input Roger. You can't hold Tony's jockstrap! How many upper level kids have you worked with? They all leave you by the time they are 14 or 15 because they realize you are crap.

Not sure who Roger is, but I'll say it again. Tony Stevens is horrible. If you want to hold his jock strap, have at it. Thanks for proving my previous statement about stupid parents. #clueless

If you don’t like Tony it is because he didn’t think anything of your kid. You couldn’t pay him to train a bad kid. He is brutally honest, so parents with egos and kids without talent don’t cut it on his field. The kids he has trained have gone on to play in Europe, NWLS, high level D1, etc. No one compares to him.

That is very true. Tony has trained more high level kids than Roger has in a lifetime. The poster who didn't like him is just a wanker.
