Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThe biggest issue with ODP is that the teams can't get together and train very often due to the players having their own club teams and game schedules. ODP is not a club team like an ECNL or DA team that practices year round. With girls and boys having access to ECNL or DA with high level training and games, they don't need the ODP. Still always amazed when ODP players get together with no regular team practices how they can come together and make it click on the field. The ODP region teams are not easy to make and the experience of playing foreign club teams and traveling to other countries is worth it.

Open trials - Open trials are used for newer players who have been seen minimally. Players can only attend one site in any trial region.
Scouted - Players can be evaluated in FYSA events such as State Cup, Region Cup and the FYSA Premier League as well as showcases and US Youth Soccer events. They will be invited to the next pool training if chosen.
Club recommendation - Players may be recommended by their clubs for evaluation and identification to the state pool. Recommendations should be made in the fall to allow for follow up evaluations.
Previous year's state team - A player from the previous year's state team will automatically be put in the pool for the upcoming year (this does not guarantee a spot on the team).

The last lists that were published were over a year ago. I know one kid that made the Alabama team. The kid is big but he cant run. About 40% of the players on any given soccer field are faster than this guy. Has no particular technical skills. I can only imagine it is who you know. The kid in question was from our area so we had played against his team every now and then. Crazy!
If ODP wants to be relevant and complete their mission they really do need to find the talented players that simply aren't in a situation where they can play on an DA team. I mean you pretty much have to live in a big city to even have a chance at one of those teams.

College showcase July 26/27 weekend and they are charging $125.00, then ODP Pool training August 3-4 for $35.00, what is ODP doing? Does anyone know what exactly and who they are targeting at this point. Lists were never posted and no transparency coming from this group, just very last minute trainings and such for the ones that did not make Alabama camp.
