    That seeding is based on their results for the previous two years. Clearly the 2016 and 2017 seasons were not that great for Xavier.

        In the SWC and FCIAC, you have to play all the weak sisters as well as the strong ones.

        In the SCC, you have to play only the weak sisters actually in your division and you play at least 6 games with cross-over division foes who are the top programs in the SCC.

        The top team in any division, must play home and aways with the top teams in the other three divisions as well.

        And since the SCC resets its division alignments every two years, it ensures the the top four teams in the league, based on the previous two years play, all have to play each other twice. When they reset the division, the top four programs are determined and placed in separate divisions. And the weak sisters all have the opportunity to play more games against equivalent programs as well.

        In the end it looks like this:

        1 2 3 4
        5 6 7 8
        9 10 11 12
        13 14 15 16
        17 18 19

        In a 16 game schedule, the Number 3 team plays home and aways with 7, 11, 15 and 19 in their division. Giving them 4 games against relatively weak programs. But they also play 6 games against 1, 2, and 4.

        When you compare that against the matchups in general in the FCIAC or SWC, the teams essentially play about the same number of games against strong, average and weak programs as those leagues do.

        Great explanation but still doesn’t make sense how some of the top teams don’t play each other and others do. Shelton plays Prep, Hand, Cheshire, and Guilford twice and Prep, Xavier and Cheshire don’t play each other at all.

            Since it's inception, the SCC has played with 3 or 4 divisions within the conference.

                  Fairfield now tied a bad team and lost to a mediocre team. Not a good way to finish a season.

                              Guilford dominated most of the game, possession, attacking. Hurt on poor calls (at one point the refs stopped the game for 2+ minutes to confer a on call - killing Guilford's momentum.) Xavier turned it around towards the last 10 minutes of play.
