WA up to 5 deaths now and more cases, so you u may be right - it's been out there but now the results are starting to appear.

And the flu has killed 5,000+ this season in America.
This is all blown out of proportion by the media. Trying to create hysteria.

the flu averages 15000 deaths a year, and bad years can get to 25K

they know this thing has been here for at least 6 weeks and we have 5 deaths nationally

There will be a huge spike in cases now that 1) more can get tested 2) it's start to do what viruses do, which is spread quickly. This one has an infection rate of 2.2 - one infected person infects 2.2 people on average. Flu is closer to 1:1.

There are wild wild variations on how many may eventually get sick from this over the next year. Taking an optimistic 1% death rate (currently it's between 2 - 2.5%)

                30% catch it = 96M cases = 960,000 deaths
                20% catch it = 64M cases = 640,000 deaths

Some experts have the rate of illness even higher than 30%, one as high as 70%. On average 10% need acute hospital care, which we don't have capacity for. This ain't no flu.

                      corona

The people saying the flu is worse are clueless. Corona kills 2-3 percent and the flu kills 0.05%. If this thing ever caused as many cases as the flu we would lose 600K-800K people. So we better hope it doesn't spread like the flu. 2-3% death rate is a huge difference and a huge threat if it picks up steam. And hospitals would not have capacity to treat the very sick 10% with breathing machines if this ever happened....

Hopefully this gets contained and the widespread scenario doesn't happen. But throughout history pandemics do happen....It is possible and shouldn't be dismissed because Trump said so.

Corona killed 2% of the first people in China- stop trying to make it sound worse than it is- it could get there
not everyone will get it - so that number is pure panic driven
other than in China its deaths are of elderly ill people -they are an in danger population already

want to be scared? wait until some 20 year old athlete dies from it- then its time to be scared
we go thru flu season every year- handle this the same way until someone with actual knowledge tells you something different

An outbreak in a WA nursing home has killed four already and others are sick. Seasonal flu doesn't kill like that. Certain portions of the population are very vulnerable, others much less so.

Despite that there is doubt there will be interruptions, cancellations, closures etc. Doesn't matter if they are rational or not, it will happen. My company already cancelled travel to a big CA convention in a few weeks

Early days show it spreads faster than flu - infected people on average infect two people vs just over one for seasonal flu. Hopefully that goes down because of awareness, but the lack of testing in the US for the last several weeks means it's been spreading quietly already. Now that testing is expanding and the disease is spreading expect a spike in cases and more panicked buying of toilet paper 😆. The one good thing about a bigger worldwide spread is scientists will get better data

Let me explain something that you don’t seem to understand. Chances are that there have already been ten times the number of cases as reported because it mimicks the flu and they weren’t testing for it. So if there are ten times as many cases, that means the fatality rate is .2%, which is about what the flu is.

Should you be cautious? Of course. But it isn’t time to panic.

The flu doesn't kill old sick people in a nursing home? What the hell are you smoking?
