Agreed this quote is way off. I coach town u14 girls town travel. We have been able to keep our team together but 12 of our girls also play premier. There are not a lot of teams that want to play us anymore. Many towns can’t even field teams after u12 on the girls side. Once the migration to premier starts most towns are in big trouble. There are about a half dozen towns that can play at a premier level in ct. after u12. And none are in Fairfield county. Most of the good ones are around Hartford. And all of these teams are like us. They are just able to get their premier players to also play town. Besides those half dozen towns you get a rec level product. I don’t think our high school team has any starters that didn’t play premier coming up.

So town travel should be able to produce high school players at a cheaper price but it really can’t anymore. Most towns won’t have a team by u13 and many of the towns that can field teams will be fielding rec teams.

          Quote.

I meant to quote the original poster saying town travel can do the same as ginga at a cheaper price.

Unless your kid is one of their top players they won't play. They just shuttle their top 6 at every age group between every team and your kid pays the 6 tuition until the top 6 leave at 14, rinse, repeat

It's one of many clubs around the state that does a solid job at the younger ages but once the migration starts in middle school to the higher leagues, things start to fall apart. With talent spread so thin it doesn't take losing more than a few players for a team to nearly or completely collapse.

Also, by HS many players and families start to question why they're continuing if playing in college either isn't a goal or isn't a realistic one. They still want to play but the high cost and still stupid travel becomes harder to justify. One of mine stopped with club after sophomore year, not because she couldn't get recruited (she was getting very good interest) but because she just didn't want to play in college. It was going to be very challenging with her major and she definitely had some burnout. But she also wanted to get a job and do some other things to build her college resume. Admissions offices don't care if you play club, but they love it if you do lots of volunteer work. Anyway, just a point for those parents who think this stuff matters for their U11 studs - many aren't even playing by HS.

Funny that kids on better u little teams should leave and go to places like CFC, ow, and FSA who can't develop anyone. Stop ruining your local little clubs for the Walmarts. Stay put, add a player or two and continue kicking their butts at older ages. If these clubs could not recruit an aggregate talent at older ages they would suck forever. Stop rewarding them for poor development. Not to mention you will find so much convenience and save a fortune by staying at the smaller local club.

The ECNL/DA college dream is too big a pull, so the Walmarts will continue to suck the talent out of the smaller clubs. CFC/OW/FSA really don't have to develop their own talent, it eventually migrates from other clubs..... so why bother?

CFC is primarily selling the recruiting platform offered by ECNL - they do not develop players.

This is true. They also bench their ulittles; not sure how that helps development.

Inaccurate. North and Arsenal branch did a fine job at this. The others; not so much.

Some of those kids belong and should be on higher level teams. I've no issue at all with that. Where kids shouldn't be going is some of the so called popup clubs, FSA C teams or some CFC branch teams. Those are the ones taking players that should stay local and not be paying top dollar for mediocre training However, in order to entice families back town programs need to up their game. Many are poorly run with lousy daddy coaches and self serving or clueless boards.

Travel should also consider allowing towns combine for HS age teams. Many towns may not have enough to field their own team but combined with 1-2 more and they would. I know our HS has multiple players who would probably like to play in the spring, but they definitely aren't interested in pricey club soccer. Plenty of HS coaches would be thrilled to have some of their squads playing any soccer in the spring, even travel.

U14's aren't even in the top 10 in CT

Didn’t realize there was a top 10 ranking list? Please post that when you get a chance.
