Either that or retire from soccer and sign the kid up for lacrosse or robotics.

... or called coaches in some clubs but that's relatively rare and when that happens they usually don't show their own kid any favoritism.

Honestly, the faster you can get out, the better, either into club or another sport. We even had parent coaches as evaluators at our town tryouts. Of course, their kids, along with all of their best buddies, ended up placed on the top team every year (a team which no outside kids could crack since U8). At club, the stress caused by politics drops significantly. As another poster mentioned, there is always the younger sibling of a star player who ends up being included on the top team undeservedly, but that's one kid per team, rather than the majority of the team. Good luck!

Club politics is less about connections and more about money. You will hear stories of parents "donating" vast sums to make sure their kid plays the position they want or to start every game. i have seen some real head scratching roster decisions and it always comes out later that the parents backed the truck up. That and the aforementioned stud sibling bullsh-t.

I love the obsession with OW. tough way to live, which means you have no life. BTW, my kid does not go to any of the "big 3".
